The Dixie Chicks remain atop the country albums chart, but the recent controversy surrounding the band hasn't helped CD sales or radio airplay. Some radio programmers and fans initiated boycotts after the trio performed a March 10 concert in London. During the show, lead vocalist Natalie Maines noted that they were ashamed that President Bush is from their home state of Texas. Maines later apologized for the remark. However, because of the radio boycott, "Travelin' Soldier" has now disappeared from Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks just two weeks after topping the chart.

not that many that can sing well enough to actually sell cd's. Check out Dare to Sing
It's SO embarrasing...beware ANYTHING by willbill (5.86 out of 10 & 127 votes) but jazzmonger and a few others are pretty cool. Actually I'm having a ball there.

Jeanine Garafalo tells me that dissent is being criminalized in the USA. I think this means that you will go to jail if you refuse to buy the Dixie Chicks' CD.
To: prisoner6
Cool.... I'll check it out. I've got some songs at a place called nowhereradio.com myself.

Having studied the Billboard Charts for over 20 years now (I have most of Joel Whitburn's books on charted records), I can tell you that it is unprecedented for a number one single to drop off the charts completely two weeks later. Usually when a record charts, it takes about 3/4 the time to fall off the charts that it did to climb the charts. So if a song took 12 weeks to reach number one, it will likely take 8 weeks to fall off the charts. And it will gradually fall, that is it will drop maybe to number 2, then 7, 11, 20, 37, 54, 71, 95 and then off.
The closest situation to this that I can remember was when the Milli Vanilli scandal hit. Their songs stopped getting airplay overnight. I'll have to do some research when I get home and see if they had any charted records at the time.
As for the album remaining at number one, unless things have changed, the positions are based solely on sales through point-of-sale "SOUNDSCAN" technology and there is a lagtime of a couple weeks. So we may see different results next week.

So do you cancel the tour? How do you walk up on stage after all this? Have you ever had to look into someones eyes after you have betrayed them? (Clinton was the only person I have ever seen do it well)

This is an important entertainment industry story then. Consider emailing Cavuto at FNC. Country music fans have spoken. The world needs to listen.

So do you cancel the tour? If you cancel, you have to give the money back. The first concert back home will be a significant news event.

I have some friends that bought their 6 and 8 year old daughters tickets. They are on their hands and knees hoping that this baby is cancelled.

Re:
The other 2 chicks are actually talented musicians (one plays banjo, dobro and steel guitar, I think; and the other plays mandolin and fiddle) have fired their lead singer before when they thought it would suit their careers. Do these 2 other chicks not realize that firing Maines right now would likely win the hearts of Americans?

Well, we know there are a lot of dumb chicks in this area of Arkansas. My daughter called me and said, "Well, I guess we can't listen to them anymore." I told her she had that right. Was glad that she realized that they are now in the NO LISTENING ZONE.

I just looked at ebay. A lot of Chicks tickets are on sale and the prices seem low compared to other concerts.

as the saying goes, birds of a feather, Natalie Maines spoke for all of them. They must go down together!
To: legman
Perhaps the VICHY CHICKS could do a French version called "Surrenderin Soldier" and top the Belgian and French charts for a while.

To: Kewlhand`tek
They are half that price on ebay for sold out concerts. Sounds like Little Rock isn't a sell out yet.
