The Dixie Chicks remain atop the country albums chart, but the recent controversy surrounding the band hasn't helped CD sales or radio airplay. Some radio programmers and fans initiated boycotts after the trio performed a March 10 concert in London. During the show, lead vocalist Natalie Maines noted that they were ashamed that President Bush is from their home state of Texas. Maines later apologized for the remark. However, because of the radio boycott, "Travelin' Soldier" has now disappeared from Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks just two weeks after topping the chart.

You're not the first to suggest that. Rumor hath it, that at least one of the others was FURIOUS at Maines. Perhaps it'll happen. Their music is great, and I'll bet that dumping Maines would only improve it.

It would have been more effective and convincing if they'd dumped Maines right away, and made a public pro-Bush, pro-troops statement in the press conference. But perhaps they'll do that at the end of this tour? We'll see.

Dumping Maines couldn't hurt the "look" of the group either.

They are the real talent!

Vocalists are a dime a dozen.

The left has criminalized the dissent of many Americans for decades. Conservative dissent has been suppressed for years on the college campus, and conservative thought punished in society in general.

And no one is safe from these "politically correct" Nazis: its odd that baseball players who make stupid remarks are forced to apologize and even resign, yet hard-left University professors are allowed to spew horrible hate speech against our troops, even encouraging their death.

Its the leftists who are the socialist/nazis. That's why they oppose the War in Iraq. The Ba'ath Party is a socialist political party, and the leftists stick together like glue.

To me ... this is not even the point. The point is - these people believe their celebrity gives them impunity to say anything. They just found out it doesn't! They don't like it, Oh Well!!!

President Bush has too much class to do this. However, for myself...I needed to imagine it anyway.

Ms Garafalo and Al Gore think that the Dixie Hen-wit's should have a monetary entitlement from us for their concerts and CD sales. Their snotty remarks about terriorism and our president on their Europian Tour, will forever be etched in our minds.

I'm all for dumping the chicks... but this statement is exactly backwards. I'm a musician and I can tell you there are thousands of people who can play musical instruments.... but not that many that can sing well enough to actually sell cd's.

FWIW I find it amusing yet sad that the station I work at (WSHH 99.7FM Pittsburgh an AC station targeting 35-54 yo women) has ADDED.....YES ADDED the DC "Travelin' Soldier" to the playlist as just about every other station across the country DROPPED it.

When it comes up on my shift I drop it, or if it sneaks on the air while I'm busy doing production I just ignore it and move on.

While the move does make >some< sense in this gawd awful business I can't believe more people haven't called in or emailed to complain about having the song on our playlist.

That's www.wshh.com... and the email is on the page somewhere...I think it's webmaster@wshh.com

Cruel but very, very accurate.

A truly beautiful illustration of the intersection of the free market with free speech.

Hope Natalie really appreciates her dual lesson in civics and economics.
