Vet says a cross between a Treeing Walker and a Blue Tick.

You have to understand how funny it is that we have this big (150 lb.s and I am not making that up) coon hound.

We live in a suburban subdivision, not a rural area. We do not hunt. My daughter brought the dog home from the animal shelter when my sheltie mix died. They told her it was a beagle. HA!

When I saw the puppy, I thought "not beagle" because she had that hound dog head. Sure enough, I was right. The dog just grew and grew!!

She is excessively spoiled, loves us to pieces, and gets along well with the cats. However, she is ALWAYS wanting to be where I am, which means that she is inside a lot (like most of the time). It is rather like having a small pony in the house.

I have a dog that's hound and Lab - best dog I've ever had, I love her like a daughter.

I live in Brooklyn, and there are at least 4 Red-bones in the 8 block around me. You may not realize it but dogs are quite common here due to the large parks and reasonable leash laws. Besides, people actually have back yard in the outer borroughs if NYC. Coonhounds are one of my favorite breeds. (though I must say that 150 lbs is huge. Must make quite a racket.)

This is interesting about coon hound varieties. I have no idea what variety of coon hound our dog is but he is a beagle mix. Too tall for straight beagle but about 50 lbs so not as big as you describe.

It's our second hound and frankly I'm sold on them. Wonderful intelligence and personalities. Thankfully the neighbors all like him so the baying isn't a problem.

Good moooooorning Situation Room!
