Re: the Guardian article about the cruise missle . . . I am sceptical, primary because the reporter supposedly found the fragment. The CAGE code site checks out, as does the 96214= Ratheon McKinney, TX plant relationship.

Interesting, I'll have to look into that. Thank you.

It was pointed out by one of the military analysts on Fox yesterday that since so many cruise missiles have hit Baghdad, it would be VERY easy to transport some missile debris to the market site.

I didn't know Ratheon made cruise missles. The CAGE inquiry says, regarding that plant "SURVEILLANCE AND ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS."

Ratheon makes the Patriot system. There are probably a few metals shards from that hanging around.

Anyway, the article posted as a prelude to a possible media talking point for the day.

Iraq losing grip on a strategic area

This article condenses what little is known about what is happening in the west. It also has the news that anyone on the highway from Baghdad trying to leave Iraq is stopped by Special Forces and searched.

Re: Ratheon and making of cruise missles, they do, but I don't knoiw which plant, and am not planning to research further.

I agree with all of you who doubt the story. I do too, for basically the same reasons - too easy to plant evidence, the reporter is a lefty, the reporter has an axe to grind, the reporter is a hog for attention.

Don't know how closely the military tracks such things, but given their penchant for paperwork, it's possible they'd know when that missile was launched and what the target was.

Of course, for all I know that's some random number from some random part and not a unique identifier.

This is interesting about coon hound varieties. I have no idea what variety of coon hound our dog is but he is a beagle mix. Too tall for straight beagle but about 50 lbs so not as big as you describe.

It's our second hound and frankly I'm sold on them. Wonderful intelligence and personalities. Thankfully the neighbors all like him so the baying isn't a problem.

Good moooooorning Situation Room!

This article condenses what little is known about what is happening in the west.

From the article: ''What we're doing in the west might be termed `area denial,' '' McCrystal told reporters. ''We have taken away from the Saddam Hussein regime the ability to call the west their own, [and] we're doing it with a very small number of troops leveraged with air power.''

I suspect there is much more coalition force out there than the statement indicates. I don't doubt that airports were taken and are held by leveraging a small number of forces -- but don't surpirsed if tens of thousands of forces, with armor, come out of the west. And I am not talking about the 4 ID.

Cargo planes swarm north

Interesting information about what is being unloaded in the north, at what seems to me to be a staggering rate.

for all I know that's some random number from some random part and not a unique identifier.

That is also possible. But, if it is a CAGE number, it identifies a specific production facility. That production facility no doubt makes more than one part number, and many many individuals of each part number.

Interesting information about what is being unloaded in the north . . .

That has been going on under cover of darkness for 4 or 5 days already! Ever since we took "that airfield" (sorry, don't recall the name, Halil?)
