,,, no, you didn't offend me at all. We're on track to declare a $NZ3,9 billion fiscal surplus by way of high taxation and stealth taxes. I can't complain, I'm getting three meals a day and all our buildings are still standing.
Young people have always gone offshore for greater opportunities - our total population is just under 4 million and primary produce and derivitives still largely account for the bulk of our export receipts.
It's become more and more socialist here but soon will come the time when I stop working to support those who don't. This government has bought votes from trade unions, welfare beneficiaries and many other sectors. It now faces a roading crisis as a lot of money collected via road tax has gone to the consolidated fund - to pay for welfare promises. Long term, I hold little hope for any advancement here unless a responsible administration evolves.
I hope NZ does get a responsible government soon. If the country is anything like Canada (I'm a fellow Commonwealth citizen) get ready for screams and catcalls from welfare recepients, trade unions and university students who howl whenever their money or benefits are at risk.
Socialism and bad economies feed on themselves. look at UK in 60s and 70s. I thought NZ was doing well in the 80s.
New Zealand should look to Ireland as a small country that used tax cuts and free enterprise to move ahead. It has great natural resources too.
