Dramatic shift in battle lines around Baghdad: DEBKAfile reports: US 101st Airborne units break through Iraqi defense lines and are fighting in streets of Hindiyah south of capital. Rumbles of artillery fire heard in South Baghdad come from these advancing US units.

All our bases are belong to us.

If there are "rumbles of artillery fire" and most of our field stuff (unless rocket propelled) is in the 10-15 mile range, someone is very close. Doesn't say who. Hmmm.
Where is the II MEF?

From DEBKA sources(?):
" Our source tells us that in a surprising turnaround, General Franks scowled 'to heck with collateral damage, let's get this over', and announced the opening of a senior NCO bar in downtown Baghdad. A clearly shocked Saddam Hussein appeared white-faced in his wheelchair on TV and announced the unconditional surrender of all his forces and appealed for mercy."
(just a little good hearted fun.)

I know this is DEBKA, but I have to post this somewhere:
This is the Mother of all Pauses.

Cyrus the Great broke the siege of Babylon (ruins near Hillah) by diverting the Euphrates. It's described in Book One of Herodotus.

Wow, this is series, even hugh!

This is the Mother of all Pauses. This all got started when a Reuters reporter misunderstood when the driver said they were pausing momentarily...he told him it was to take a leak, but the newsy thought he said a week...

Hindiyah is still 50 miles from downtown B-town.
Correction. That would be 50 klicks. That would place us within thirty miles of Baghdad.
At least, that's what I've read on the other threads. I haven't consulted a map, lately, but we are literally knocking on the damn door.
Our guys are doing a wonderful job. They're doing stuff that the Iraqis didn't expect: going into urban combat and fighting it out with the Fedayeen and the Al Quds. Further, they adjusted their tactics after last weekend: they started hunting Fedayeen out in the boonies. Small hunter-killer teams have made their presence felt.
Gentlemen, we have arrived at the Turn of the Tide...
Be Seeing You,
Chris

Debka is more accurate than the NY Times.
Yep, now that you mention it, they are more accurate, and Debka doesn't have the extreme leftist viewpoint that the NY times propagates. Debka, however has made some serious mistakes.

I just found out something very interesting. I asked our resident Arab specialist which section of Baghdad, if any, would be the least loyal to Saddam. He said "Saddam City." I said, "let me guess: this is on the north, right?" yes.
I will not be surprised if the II MAE suddenly materializes out of the desert at precisely the zone in which the least Saddam support lies.
