{snip) March 31, 2003 OFFICIAL: France Issues Order to Boycott NewsMax

With Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff For the story behind the story...

Sunday, March 30, 2003 11:45 p.m. EST French Government Officially Boycotting NewsMax

It's official: The government of France is boycotting NewsMax.com.

This past week, NewsMax Pundit Charles Smith called the French Embassy in Washington and spoke with Deputy Press Counsel Agnes Vondermuhal.

Ms. Vondermuhal bluntly stated that the embassy had passed details of NewsMax's "Boycott France" campaign, including our recent ad in the New York Times, on to officials in Paris.

Apparently, the Chirac government was angered, and expressed its concern about the NewsMax boycott with a simple statement:

"We are boycotting NewsMax."

Ms. Vondermuhal said the embassy had taken strong exception to the NewsMax advertisement in the New York Times and stated that the information presented by NewsMax was incorrect. She noted that the French had voted for U.N. resolution 1441 on Iraq and that France was supporting the U.S. war against Saddam.

Ms. Vondermuhal also asserted that the NewsMax campaign against France bordered on racism, saying that her mother was Jewish and faced similar insults during the Vichy years in France.

Racism? (Too bad the French government has done little about anti-Semitic violence carried out by appeasement activists in Paris this past week, a report NewsMax carried.) ...

Although I'm boycotting all things French and hope that any European terrorist attacks occur in Paris, Newsmax's "plight" doesn't draw too many tears. It is a great marketing ploy. I'm surprised Larry Klayman at Judicial Watch hasn't yet filed suit on NewsMax's behalf in order to boost fundraising.

someone allieve my ignorance: exactly HOW are the frogs assisting us in the war effort?
oh, or was it their point that they are helping SADDAM?

Obviously, by supplying the Iraqis with french military equipment. If I were in the theater, it would certainly make me feel safer knowing my enemy was using French equipment.

I believe they said, after some wavering, that they would prefer that we win the war, rather than Saddam. I think their support was kind of like the the way I feel when the Cowboys play the Packers - I hate both teams so it's just a matter of which team can help my team the most by losing.

well, seriezly...
the exocet is no joke, nor is the milan
some of the things the iraqi irregulars have been reportied as doing are like the things the FFL did to libyan forces in chad - quite effective, really.
however, if only the frogs had provided saddam with his generals... then the french would have won the war for us by now.

Boycotting a news source whose views discomfort them. So much for French willingness to see the other side and to be against racism... Fascistoid useful idiots in perdition alert. Bad losers and bad winners, losers all the way.

No tears here, just amusement at more French hypocrisy. Newsmax is exercising their freedom of speech and their capitalist economic philosophy.

C'est la vie or, it's time for me to go brew some very strong Freedom Roast coffee. :)

Would that be laissez-faire capitalism? :-)

They are not and again they are. It is the French way you see, deny, deny, deny, j'accuse.

It makes one dizzy, it is like having a bimp on your head.

the exocet is no joke,

They weren't a joke in the 80s; these days I can't think of much I'd prefer to face (maybe some of the Chinese copies of old Soviet stuff, but that's about it). About the only anti-shipping missile that really concerns me these days is the Sunburn (now that the Chinese have it).

nor is the milan

I have my doubts about the milan being able to hurt an Abrams MBT (or at the very least, I'm confident of survivability), but I certainly wouldn't want to be in a Bradley surprised by one. I've heard rumors that France sold Iraq a bunch of 3rd generation Milans (in violation of the sanctions, like a lot of other recent French sales), but I'm not sure if Iraq ever deployed them (if they did, they're probably waiting in the Republican Guard units holed up in Baghdad right now).

some of the things the iraqi irregulars have been reportied as doing are like the things the FFL did to libyan forces in chad - quite effective, really.

I guess expecting the Iraqis to wage a stand-up fight was too much to hope for (still, there's a part of me that wishes we'd stay outside of Baghdad and somehow irritate them into "coming out to play" so non-combatants and infrastructure wouldn't get hurt). On the bright side, I suspect the British experience in Northern Ireland is going to make this a lot easier (not to mention our Somali wounds).
