More Iraqi suicide attacks coming: Tariq Aziz

There will be more suicide attacks on US-led forces seeking to topple the regime of President Saddam Hussein, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz told the US television network ABC.

In an interview from Baghdad, Aziz told ABC News that people who are being threatened by an invasion have "the right to fight by all means" to defend themselves.

"This is one of the means to defend Iraq against the invaders," he said. "So it is welcome.

"When you fight an invader by whatever means available to you, you are not a terrorist, you are a hero," he told ABC News, describing them as "freedom fighters against invaders, against colonialists, against imperialists -- they are freedom fighters and heroes and we are proud of them."

Speaking in Baghdad, Iraqi General Hazem Al-Rawi said more than 4,000 volunteers had come from every Arab nation, ready to follow in the footsteps of an Iraqi officer who killed four US soldiers in a suicide attack in southern Iraq on Saturday.

According to Aziz, Saddam was not at the site US precision-guided bombs hit the first night of the war, and that the Iraqi leader is alive and well.

Azziz also said he was surprised at how US and British officials are dealing with the development of the war.

"I don't want to be rude, (but) I'm really astonished to the degree of shallowness in which the American and British military and political leadership are dealing with the course of the war," he said.

"They are making cheap lies, you see, which are unbelievable and they are betting on imaginary things which do not exist," he said.

Aziz said that Arabs and Muslims around the world "are wholeheartedly supporting Iraq and they know that this is an unjust war. A war of aggression, colonialist, imperialist war against Iraq."

A tank from the 270th Armored Division guards the entrance to An Najaf. The wrecked car and trucks on the road were destroyed during suicide raids against U.S. troops.

If Aziz lives through this, I want him tried, convicted and hanged, for his role as a key top government thug, under Saddam.

Remember Nuremburg.

I suppose that Aziz wasn't so strongly opposed to an unending occupation of Iraq, so long as it was the U.N. controlled by like-minded dictators and weapons suppliers, as he is opposed to the U.S. eliminating the Baathists, assisting in rebuilding, and, presumably, getting out.

Why is Aziz still around? I'm wondering if he might be the top mole, as ridiculous as that may sound.

Interestingly, Aziz' son is in jail on a 22-year-term for some sort of profiteering charges. Since no one has profiteered more than Saddam, these charges probably have a political bias. Question: is Aziz really loyal to someone who has imprisoned his son, or is Aziz just faking it?

Tariq Aziz thinks we're being shallow huh? He has seen only a slice of the combat power we have at our disposal. And as for homocide bombers stopping us, someone should tell him the Japanese kamikaze attacks on our Navy carriers during World War II made absolutely no difference in the final outcome of the war. All future homocide bombings of our troops will do is simply stiffen our resolve to go for the big finish. Aziz thinks we're clueless about the Iraqi national character; the reality is he and his inner circle are clueless about the extraordinary determination of the American fighting man. Our past enemies found it out to their everlasting regret and the regime of his master will shortly meet the same fate.

I don't remember which Freeper to give credit for this quote but it bears to be repeated;

Every attack by Iraq is a suicide attack!
