LOL, David Christian on Fox just said that Peter Arnett used to be known as "Pink" Peter during Vietnam.

Good Morning and thanks for the compliment.

11 days into Operation Iraqi Freedom we advanced to within 50 miles of Baghdad, reduced the capability of the Republican Guard by 50% [but the press says it should have been 49 miles! Grade "D"], established multiple airbases in-country [but no first class available on scheduled flights - Grade "F"], secured a 250-mile supply line across rugged desert terrain [not impressive enough - needed to include some daring feat - ala Berlin Airlift, Grade "C"], took control of scud missile launch sites in western Iraq used in Desert Storm to fire missiles at Israel[Saddam has no SCUDs so unnecessary - Grade "E" (for effort)], took control of Iraq's only port facility[it would have been more spectacular to have "more" ports - Grade "C"], launched a major humanitarian effort to provide food and water for needy Iraqis too little to late, and besides, starving Iraqis are better for the ratings - Grade "F"], and elevated a previously unknown Belly Girl to cult icon status on FR well, okay, her sign isn't PC, but - Grade "B".

Final Score - D,F,C,E,C,F,B

Fox - Levanthal showing a destroyed AAA emplacement. Much clearer picture of how Iraqis are using terrain and knowledge of U.S. tactics to fight. Evidence of camp sites in the area. Found uniforms and civilian clothes. When marines fire on them, the Iraqis change into civilian clothes and run down the road to their farms. BAH! FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER, LEVANTHAL! I don't care if the weapon's disabled.

On that last bit, he was showing an AKM that had been disabled by Marine engineers. It had its barrel bent at a 90 degree angle, but he was holding it with his finger on the trigger. That's a big no-no as far as firearms safety is concerned, no matter the state of the weapon.

Good morning, and thanks for getting the thread going.

I see Mr. Arnett, who had been given a chance to redeem his reputation with this war, has instead gone over to the side of evil.

Even as we speak, I believe, JAG officers are pouring through legal cases seeing what recourse the Pentagon has. NBC should be veeery nervous.

I loved the way they stay out of hot water with these two lines at the END of the article.

"Comparisons with Vietnam are premature.

It could happen, but less than two weeks into the war, it hasn't happened yet."

Fox - Levanthal continuing to report that armed civilians are being treated as "targets". Sometimes, uniformed Iraqis are firing on Marines, then disarming, putting civi clothes on, and walking right by the Marines they fired upon. Once injured, they're treated as an injured Marine would be treated. Marines he's traveling with have not changed the RoE. Recon work is slow going. Moves in 100-200yd increments, then scan the horizon before moving forward again.

I have this crazy thought....

we need to somehow "mark" these Iraqis when they are soldiers by sending a paint ball rocket into the air in their vicinity.....perferably a fluorescent pink ....

then even if they change into their farmers clothes, we still have them marked...
