Here's my take on the situation as of 12:01 this night, adapted from my #147 on the ATRW thread:

All is well tonight. The World Weekly News is preparing a headline on 50,000 human spontaneous combustions that have mysteriously struck certain inhabitants in the outer edges of Baghdad. Akmed has been transferred from roof to chimney sweeping duty, and he's the only one in town not breathing cruise missile soot.

The Democratic party just realized that the flag is red, white and blue, and not blue, white and red, and a certain former President of that persuasion is desparately piecing together the ashes of his draft card. The "peace" movement is digging graves in preparation of a veritable die-in. Dan Rather's SOS was picked up by Walter Cronkite, and they both sank. Ramsey Clark looked in the mirror, and the mirror didn't like what it saw. Verizon just delivered the latest Yellow Pages, the thickest edition ever, to Tom Daschle's office.

The United Nations is sinking beneath the FDR. Germany's best physicians have yet to figure out how to remove Schroeder's foot from his mouth without killing him. Chirac is flambe, best served with a well done French Coq-au-vin. Putin was caught in Mexico trying to sneak into Crawford to beg for mercy. China is keeping quiet, desparately hoping that Walmart's 1st quarter returns are strong.

The Arab street is on flashing red lights in all directions. Arafat's towel is all wet. Iran is Persian, Turkey is Ottoman, Egypt is in Africa, Syria is stuck in Lebanon, Jordan is under control, Kuwait is with us, Palestine is Isreali, Saudi Arabian is mumbling like an idiot because it has duct tape stuck on its beard, Afghanistan is run by our man Karzai, Pakistan is policing itself, and Yemen is hiding under a rock. Iraq is all alone.

Meanwhile Peter Arnett, Ramsey Clark, Bill Clinton, and Jesse Jackson are still stupid. Best of all, irrelevancy is their present M.O.

Above all, the U.S. Army has so many MRE's available, it's giving them away for free. On the downside, lines are huge outside of Basra.

Not from Buffalo. I live in Rochester, New Hampshire. The NCAA Division 1 College Hockey Frozen Four is in Buffalo from April 10-13. We (UNH) won the Hockey East championship and won the northeast regional playoffs. Two games to the national championship.

Up here in New Hampshire, we are rabid hockey fans (there isn't much else to do in the winter).

I was going to try this as Vanity, but didn't want to be destroyed so early in my Freeperdom. It was on Day 11 thread, but a bit late. I'm not spamming, last time.
_________

Ok, I'll be the first to say it. I too got the jitters at the thought of resistance kicking up a storm in Iraq. The idea that "freinds" (Germany and France) have deserted us, and those claiming basic neturality (Syria, Russia and Turkey) have only made things more difficult for us in various ways.

Then I woke up.

Whatever becomes of this war, it's important to remember what brought us here. We liberated Kuwait from the "Butcher of Bahgdad" and then hung around to contain him. That is almost the entire complaint about how we "abuse" the middle east, aside from not accepting terrorism as a tool of diplomacy in Israel.

Yes, terrible us (sarcasm), at the request of almost every Muslim government in the Arab World, freed a country from a tyrant. Our blood, our 300 people (along with Britain mostly) reversed Saddam's will.

What the Arabs didn't realize though, is that we meant it. We were not going to walk away, just to be retrieved like puppies the next time Saddam got an itch.

Now, after years of breaking every agreement he'd signed, and years of our "so-called" allies trading with this monster behind our backs, (and in our faces) we (Bush) had a "revelation". The Arab world is chock full of idiots, dictators, and extremists.

9/11 was not an isolated incident, it's the wave of the future, brought to you by Arab dictators who deflect attention away from themselves by blaming the US for everything from lice, crabs, the price of tea in China...whatever.

And why do they get away with such things? Because we've supported them. Remnents of the Cold War, when we jumped into the sack with the ugliest 2:am woman in the world, justifiably, to oppose the Soviets. It's the number one reason the average Arab sees us as duplicitous. (or so I've read) We speak of democracy and humanity, but still support those same dictators that supress them. This is not critism of our great country, which I love and serve proudly, it's just a simple fact. It also does not justify thier actions against us on 9/11.

That brings us to this war, and this point in history. Morning has come, and we now see the wrinkles of the woman who was ugly even the night before, and we can't stomach it. Saddam is but one source of our irritation. We supported him at one time, but no more. The morning sun has touched his face and it is too ugly to bear. If we can get him out of the bed and invite, encourage and nurture the beautiful democratic ideals we value instead, we will have won years of peace for ourselves and the world.

The days lying in bed with dictators is slowly, but surely coming to an end. We will, at long last, live up to our creed. President Bush has the will to see this through. That may be wishful thinking, but I am a hopeful sort. If nothing else, this war will speak volumes to the Middle East about the cost of encouraging thier little terrorists through Masadras, They know we would probably not be in Iraq now if it hadn't have been for the evil action of 9/11. That day brought a revelation to us. Bahgdad, hopefully, will be theirs.

We will win. This may be the most sorely needed war in History. Our men and women are just, and so is thier cause.

God bless them.

There's a man who live a life of danger
To everyone he meets he stays a stranger
In every move he makes, another chance he takes
Odds are he won't live to see tomorrow
