I can think of many reasons. Disinformation, psy ops, forcing a movement, etc.
I'm not thinking or fighting past wars. This is totally different and has never been done.
Decades of tactics and strategy are being rewritten as we speak.

Thanks for posting this data. I got something similiar from a Doctor friend, and I couldn't find it.
In 1999, the CDC said the average mortality rate for all Americans was 877 per 100,000. The U.S. Census Bureau says there are currently about 290 million people in the U.S. We take 290,000,000 / 100,000 = 2,900, then multiply by 877 = 2,543,300 deaths per annum / 365 days = 6,968 deaths per day, more than a few of them in violent, bloody, murders.
So the expected mortality for the 400,000 soldiers in Iraq and Kuwait, as well as on the ships, would be a little more than 9 1/2 per day (6,968/290,000,000*400,000 = 9.61). Right now, at 40 in 12 days, we're averaging "only" 3.33 per day. That's almost three times better than the mortality of stateside Americans!

Why would you release the name of the person you're looking for while you're in the middle of a military action to get them?To ferret him out of his hiding place.

Check out the dude center right in sunglasses. Even mafia hitmen support our troops! No squashed nose. More like Secret Service guy.

According to the Sit map, the Neb is still in the North between Mosul and Baghdad, right about at Tikrit. It is listed as a mechanized division on that map.
And are we bombing in Mosul as well?

Chemical Ali was reported to be in one of the southern cities earlier this week.
From what I've gathered, Iraqis have been able to move in and out of several cities where we've been fighting. That mobility may have come to an end.

Leventhal update: Heading north thru congested areas. Along the way came into heavy firing from light armored vehicles on targets. Cobras called in to strike targets. Smoke on the horizon afterwards. On the lookout for Iraqi mechanized units. We passed numerous AAA guns that were destroyed. We are covering the areas to look for hiding Iraqis.

Correction. They came into firing, and WE responded with heavy gunfire from light armor vehicles.

Thanks. I'm a historian (hard "h"), so I try to keep my analysis to known facts. The only thing one can say for sure is what has happened up until the now, and, to an extent, what has not happened (there is no often no proof of what has not happened). Everything that follows is unsure, and too many people try to claim it. The past is equally full of the unknowable. For example, I don't know that Iraq has not been able to export WMD. I am sure that it is a more difficult proposition with the 3rd ID sitting in the front yard. The only thing we can do is to find truth as best we can. As my father says, every untruth makes the world that much less perfect.
The most important thing for a historian to remember, as David McCullough said, is that in history nothing that has happened has to have happened that way.

Fox - Rick Levanthal live on fox now. No operational pause where he is. Going through heavily contested areas. Heavy firing from our LAV's both to left and right. CAS from Cobras. On lookout for mechanized Iraqi units. Passed numerous destroyed/abandoned AAA along roadside. Marines moving in on hiding places like warehouses. Two civilian vehicle incidents. First incident: fired warning shots. No threat, just stupid drivers. Second vehicle didn't stop either, Marines opened up and hit vehicle. Two Iraqis wounded. Injured Iraqis moved to medical facilities. Marines often returning to unit with all ammo expended. Things are definitly picking up. Some companies out facing action, some holding position.
