WTF Is Geraldo doing?
Posted on 03/30/2003 8:48:09 PM PST by lewislynn
This is the third night I've seen Geraldo giving the location of his company and mentioning the new supply route to the west.
Three nights ago he gave his location by miles. So many miles north of Q8 and so many miles south of Baghdad and so many miles west of ?....
Now he's drawing their war plan in the sand.
I'll put Geraldo in the Peter Arnett category (is anybody really surprised at his treason?).
I went to the FOX website but can't find the e-mail address...I'm pissed.

Well, haven't seen anything that supports the rumor he has been let go or sent out of Iraq, have you?
To: Nick Danger; Reagan Man
Geraldo was on the O'Reilly radio show this morning, said he is still in Iraq, has not been booted back to Kuwait, that the troops love him, and he them, that the story is bogus and was planted by jealous whimps such as Jeff Greenfield and some turkey at MSNBC, that he has demanded an immediate retraction, and that if he doesn't get one, he is going to sue everybody's ass for 30 million dollars. I suggest therefore that you mind your P's and Q's.

The sand map was a big fat bunch of nothing, and actually quite inaccurate. LOL.

Geraldo... has demanded an immediate retraction, and that if he doesn't get one, he is going to sue everybody's ass for 30 million dollars. This thing gets more bizarre by the minute. Reuters is pushing this story, quoting 'Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman' to the effect that Geraldo "compromised operational information." AFP quotes 'military spokesman Navy Lieutenant Commander Charles Owens' of CENTCOM saying, "I can confirm that it has been done." CNN attributes it to unnamed "U.S. military officials." Meanwhile Geraldo is appearing live on Fox, quite obviously in the presence of troops in Iraq, and quite obviously free to set up his equipment and broadcast. Go figure. Either Geraldo is going to be the last one to find out he's been bounced from Iraq, or the Pentagon has set up CNN, Reuters, and NBC for a public thrashing. I notice that the AP stayed away from the whole thing (which probably means that they could not confirm it themselves) and finally filed a story that relates both sides and leaves it up in the air. |

Didja see the other FOX guy - what's his name... something Kelly ... who caught some glass in the face from an artillery round landing near him? some amazing footage of the firefight earlier today (while it was still light over there).

I heard on the news this morning that Geraldo was never an official "embed". He was simply traveling with the unit. If that is true, he should never have been allowed to do that in the first place. Especially since he is "Geraldo".
Geraldo is more known for his entertainment value than his professionalism, and so I would question the wisdom of any officer who would allow him to travel with his men. Even those of us who like Geraldo know his limitations, which seem obvious.

I would question the wisdom of any officer who would allow him to travel with his men I'm sure they understand him pretty well. Officers are the best psychologists in the world. Hafta be, in order to motivate and shape the men underneath them. I would think they err on the side of caution what they tell Geraldo. Of course, I could be wrong. Who knows for sure.

PMSNBC reported "confirmation" that Geraldo got the boot.
I thought it was a hoax.
What's the truth?
To: lewislynn
I'd be willing to bet that this is all part of the plan to disinform the enemy of our intentions. Or else to inform them with the blessing of the brass to scare them. Geraldo loves this type of thing.
Who can forget his famous bit when he went undercover as a dealer on a narc sting? One of the bad guys said "gee, you look just like that Geraldo fella on TV". He played it off well, and the deal went down.
Alright, I know he screwed up on Al Capone's vault, but he is what he is and at least he's supporting the troops instead of the dissenters. If they wanted somebody to grandstand and get the word out, Geraldo is their man. Also remember Norman S. and C. Powell in the 1st Gulf War giving elaborate plans with charts on TV, then doing the exact opposite.

I heard and saw the report on MSNBC a few minutes ago, where they said the PENTAGON has confirmed they asked Geraldo to leave the 101st coverage.
Is MSNBC still lieing?
M. Peach, I'm sorry your thread got pulled. It was NEW info, IMHO.

Exactly. I can't believe that grown adults think the military owes us every detail of what they do or plan to do. Nobody is entitled to a preview or in depth after-action report of sensitive operations, it could compromise those who cooperated as well as derail future ops.

The truth is that we don't really know the Truth...LOL! This gets stranger and stranger by the minute.
Well, I'm certainly not much of a Geraldo fan, but I do believe in giving credit where credit is due. And since he's been with FOX, I do believe that he's shown at least a few redeeming qualities, such as when the Quecreek miners were rescued in Pennsylvania. Granted, the military has the absolute final say on whether he stays or goes -- I don't question their judgement. But as a matter of principle, I hope he stays, just so he sticks in the craw of PMSNBC, CNN and Peter Arnett.
To: Willie Green
I agree with you 100% Willie...I am not a big JerryG fan..but I think he has shown more loyalty to the GI's and to the U.S. than Benedict Arnett has and like you say, anything to piss of those you mention.
