To paraphrase a line Steve Martin used during Sunday's Oscar telecast, there were no winners and losers on TV during the first days of the war with Iraq -- but I'm going to change all that now.
Fox News: Established itself as the dominant cable news channel as it pummeled CNN in the ratings throughout the first days of the war. It also did some creditable reporting, although the channel's rampant jingoism and in-your-face style is hard to take in large doses.

Has anyone else noticed that CBS News has pretty much fallen off the face of the Earth? It's not mentioned once here, and I just saw an info-McNuggest graphic somewhere yesterday that showed CBS was on the air for maybe 1/3 of the time of NBC or ABC.

Rick Leventhal of Fox. An imbedded reporter who should get to renegotiate his contract when he gets back.

BBC America: By running the BBC's coverage of the war, this digital cable channel offered a fresh, very different perspective on the conflict in the gulf. It's just too bad more people don't get the channel. The BBC has been rabidly anti-American. Me thinks their whole analysis is skewed!

I am among those that have watched mostly MSNBC this week. They just report more news. Fox can't be beat when I am in the mood for talk radio.

Of course the usual swipe at Fox! "Jingoistic" apparently mens even handed and when in doubt, pro-American.
Meanwhile, Fox's ratings climb, because people are tired of the cynical, pro-Arab, anti-military reporting of the rest.
I am so glad I bought stock in Newscorp. Ha!

Chris Kline reporting in Northern Iraq for FOX is super! Not only are his reports interesting, his use of the English language is sublime! Love this guy!

[Fox News] the channel's rampant jingoism . . . Jingoism is blatant patriotism. The other news outlets sure don't demonstrate ANY patriotism. Take your pick, public.

This writer is obviously far to the left in his views.
I'm interested in what he says about MSNBC, though. Is it really getting good ratings? That's too bad.
