Franks: 'Where we stand today is . . . truly remarkable'
U.S. Central Command denies that it has asked for troop reinforcements to maintain the war against Iraq. Central Command chief Gen. Tommy Franks denied that he has asked for more troops to be sent from the United States to Iraq. In a briefing on Sunday, Franks also denied reports that his request was denied by the Defense Department.
Franks also dismissed reports that his forces have taken what he described as an "operational pause" near Baghdad as Central Command waits for reinforcements.
"We're in fact on plan," Franks said. "And where we stand today is not, in my view, only acceptable, but truly remarkable. There have been some pundits who have indicated we may be in an operational pause. This simply is not the case."

Why is the truth of our remarkable progress so flagrantly being ingnored by the LIBERAL media? Desperation.
It's like the Iraqis. If they admit Saddam is dead, their whole charade falls to pieces.
If the leftist/media elites admit that we are winning this war, their whole rhetorical house of cards of the last year comes crashing down on their heads.

The liberal media shuns truth, the way the Baathless party goons shun soap, water and mercy.

They should tie these guys to the front of their tanks on the way to Baghdad so they will be able to see real good!!!!

CENTCOM did one more than that - they turned off the SATPHONES of the embedded reporters on the front lines.I heard an interview with a journalist who was with a group driving in to Basra. He said their convoy was halted, the car he was in escaped, but 7 other journalists(Italian I think) were captured and ended up in Baghdad. When asked how they were caught he said someone used a SATPHONE and the Iraqis were on to the almost immediately.

The liberals are so accustomed to lying that they cannot deal with someone who is honest. They just cannot believe that Franks, Rumsfeld and the administration are telling the truth.
They expect everyone else to act as they do - lie, cheat and betray trust. A dishonest man finds others hard to trust because he always thinks they will behave the way he would. That is the problem with the liberal media.

Guess the Italians didn't get the word - it was for their own safety.
So much for getting that scoop - now they ARE the scoop.
Nobody said you had to have a brain to be an embedded (or otherwise) reporter.

Reporters often leave that profession and go into politics, law, or car sales.

Their worst nightmare is of national unity around the just projection of US armed might under the leadership of a Republican president. They will do their best to ignore successes and focus on failures, and after the war has been won, they will focus on the damage and destruction and ignore the joy of the liberated Iraqis. They will also assisuously ignore the findings of WMD. It's just the way they are (e.g. fools).

Great comments . .
"What can be done? Not much, in a nation that truly values its freedom of speech. The only way this can get better is for the individual media outlets to exercise more responsibility in their coverage. The chance of this happening is zero.
"
I had to spend 3 days last week with a relative at the hospital in recovery.
All their cable system carried was CNN (both versions) and MSNBC.
MSNBC was clearly more unbiased than CNN was.
Being a "captive audience" I turned over to CNN to compare it with MSNBC. I don't know the bit$he$ name (the blond that covers CNN morings), but her voice constantly dripped with sarcasm of the President, our Armed Forces, and continually prodded (put words in their mouths) the people she interviewed AGAINST favoring the United States TOWARDS favoring Iraq!
About the same coverage we got during Nam.

"Why is the truth of our remarkable progress so flagrantly being ingnored by the LIBERAL media?"
Because they need to portray everything that happens in Iraq as a failure so that socialists like Clinton, Daschle, Wrangle, et al. can try to gain some political traction for the next election.
All's I can say is that if there were any people sitting on the fence as to whether or not the major media has a left-wing bias, those people have had their eyes opened in the last few weeks.
