Administration Source: Baghdad Will Fall From Within
The Saddam Hussein regime will end as a result of an internal collapse sparked by undercover U.S. operatives working with disaffected Iraqi officials, and not as a result of frontal attacks by U.S. forces assaulting the Iraqi capital an influential Pentagon source told Fox News.
Covert U.S. forces operating inside the besieged city have established close contacts with Iraqi officials and the administration source indicates that the end could come suddenly and without a major battle inside the city.
As NewsMax.com reported yesterday U.S. Hit Squads Targeting Top IraqisCIA and special forces operatives are working inside enemy lines and the Fox News report adds more detail abiut their activities.
According to Fox Pentagon correspondent Bret Baier, the source told him "We know who's with us, and we know who's against us, and we're in constant communication."

Bright neon sign broadcast to Saddam - "hey buddy, you need a purge. You need a really ruthless purge. Badly. Right now. Why, at least 30% of your officer corps should be shot". Go to it. Sic 'em boys. The enemy's immorality is a two edged sword.

No, for whatever reason they want this story out. It was given on the record.

I have absolutely no military experience. None. But what from my post do you disagree with?

If we had waited the two weeks needed to get the 4th in country and projecting force, the Iraqis would have had two weeks to spread the 6000 chem suits around, to better construct their ruses (fakes like in Kosovo), to better position their scud launchers, etc. I think we caught them by surprise by going when we did. The surprise allowed us to take hundreds of miles virtually unopposed, to arrive at the 'gates of Baghdad' far quicker than the Iraqis ever thought possible, and to catch the Fedayeen unready to deploy their terrorists for more effective manipulation of the populace. Oh, and the turning off of the water in Basra was intended to make the populace very thirsty by the time we went in (two weeks of thirst will make a populace very pliable); the Iraqis were caught off guard so much that they didn't even get to deploy the mines in the Euphrates and Gulf and the first bunker strike prevented immediate command and control for deploying the Southern forces. The time was ripe to strike. we took it, and it will shorten the war and save tens-of-thousands of Iraqi lives. Need more?

The way I heard it was the Baer(?) correspondent to Pentagon for Fox told Shepard Smith for broadcast that a senior Pentagon official told him that Baghdad would fall from within rather than without. There were really no more specifics than that so I was thinking that Hussein, if he is alive, would be capped by someone with access. My mind did not run to Delta Force scenarios. Who knows?
Sounds good though.

Wouldn't a bunch of Americans skulking around, carrying M4's, Barrets and laptops stand out like a sore thumb on the streets of Baghdad?

Everyone in the government will become suspicious of each other. Once the noose is tight enough, the phone calls from Baghdad to its friends, the French, Germans, Russians, and Arab countries will be fast and furious. There will be threats and blackmail as the remaining Iraqi leaders play let's make a deal to save their skins.
