WASHINGTON, USA: Mar 27 (PNS) - The Bush Administration is seeking from Congress an amount of dollar 1.5 billion assistance "to help its coalition partners cope with the affects of the war."
"Pakistan will be the principal beneficiary, of this amount" according to US official sources. Giving a break up of the funds the administration has requested for the war in Iraq and for fighting terrorism, the State Department sources said: There is a $1.5 billion for coalition partners, including those for Pakistan.
The financial assistance for U.S. allies is of two categories: the classified and the miscellaneous. The sources, however, did not specify the exact amount out of the dollar 1.5 billion, being sought in supplementary budget by the US president from the Congress.
The official had also said that $8 billion would go towards international operations and aid to countries such as Jordan, Israel, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Afghanistan, the Philippines and Columbia. Of that figure $3.5 billion would pay for humanitarian relief, reconstruction and repairs to damaged oil fields.
Expect a particularly ugly demonstration of anti-Americanism in the run-up to the 2004 elections in India, given that the US is allying with India's public enemy #1 (Pakistan). I wouldn't be surprised if they go over and above what Schroeder did in Germany.
