[history]
While he caused a big furor at the Oscars Sunday with his controversial remarks about President George W. Bush, documentary filmmaker is hardly finished with taking the commander in chief to task.
According to Variety online, the filmmaker is putting together a deal with actor Mel Gibson's production company to finance "Fahrenheit 911," a documentary that will trace the roots of terrorism against the United States.

Michael Moore is a fictitious human being. He is also, quite clearly, insane. So is just about everybody on the Left. Hatred of Bush has driven them mad. The only one they hate more than Bush is God Himself, and God is allowing them to self-destruct.

I think that Variety Online got it wrong. Gibson's company is considering a movie called "Farenheit 451." I seriously doubt that coincidentally it's also considering "Farenheit 911."
What seems more likely is that the Variety writer got lazy and didn't do his research.

The young bin Laden was among the freedom fighters propped up by the CIA as they battled the Soviets in Afghanistan when the elder Bush headed that agency Wow, two big lies in one sentence (unfortunately, both have been repeated for so long that most people, even some conservatives, actually believe them). The people fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan were Mujaheddin, and the Taliban government betrayed them and took power long after the Soviets left. Bin Laden was not among them, he didn't go to Afghanistan until later, after leaving Saudi Arabia for Sudan and then Afghanistan in the 1990s. The remains of the "freedom fighters" the US supported during the Soviet occupation (and who were abandoned to the Taliban takeover after the war) were many of the same people that we also supported in the "Northern Alliance" after 9/11.
And considering that Bush was CIA director before Carter (1976) and the Soviets didn't invade Afghanistan until 1979 (long after Bush had left the position and Stan Turner was in charge), the suggestion that he "propped up" Bin Laden is even more ridiculous.

Moore may be correct......... No, he may not be. That the BinLadin Group and the Carlyle group have had business dealings is common knowledge. But the BinLadin Group is NOT Usama Bin Laden, it is his father's company, and a quite respectable one (they have done construction projects in Egypt, Jordan, and elsewhere). To suggest that there is something sinister here (as Moore is doing) is as ridiculous as trying to blame the U.S. cocaine problem on Coca Cola.

Probably more likely than a Saddam Hussein / Bin Laden tie.

Mel is a little busy right now working in Italy on his film on the life of Christ.
He might be out of the loop on the negotiations.

You're peddling this crap all over FR tonight.
The Carlyle Group accepted investments from BinLaden's father, who kicked his sorry-assed son out of the family.
The fact is, there is no tie between the Bush family and Osama binLaden, but Moore will pimp that line anyway.
If Gibson's company finances this movie, FReepers need to take a long, hard look at what Gibson is really about.
I happen to think Mel is a bit weird myself. A good guy to his family, but not everybody builds a Catholic chapel in his back yard.

BFD-I've had over twenty different dealings with Bin Laden (SA). It has nothing to do with the throw away kid, Ossama. Noone in the family liked him or his mother.

The Bush-Bin Laden tie doesn't give me a second's pause, I mean, I'm from Arkansas and so is my family since it was part of Louisiana and you can do the six degrees connection between me and the "Blythe" (aka Clinton) clan all day long and while were southern democrats until long after the war, we finally saw the collective error of our political ways long before Faubus and Fulbright. But anyway, I digress, what really bothered me wasn't the "Bush-OBL" tie in this article but the fact that Icon might finance Moore's fantasy. I'll give them a call Monday.
Cheers,
Canis

Dont believe this until you see Icon publish the facts....a few months ago Michael Jackson cited Icon as the producer to one of his movies...NOTHING ever came of that. It's simply using Icon's name to promote thier own cause....plus Mel is very prominant in the news controversially right now....They are feeding of the back of this. Also Mel's company wanted to do Fahrenheit 451...some coincidence that has been used to feed the fule of speculation I think!!!
Stay calm....Im sure that even if there were to be some involvement it would not be as you think it would be....It all smacks of shonky journalism and Moore's wishing to me........

Why is this story getting so much press? it's SUCH A NON-STORY, and it hasn't even been validated by Gibson's people.
