Hackworth Accuses Leadership of Not Responding to the Reality of Enemy Tactics
Hackworth just made the same points some of the lib press has been making for a few days. The difference is that the press is taking solace, while Hackworth is sounding the alarm. His contentions are (paraphrasing):
- The generals planned for a traditional ground war, and are encountering a guerrilla war.
- The grunts in the field are not happy with the tactics so far.
- The brass is trying to adapt, but had better do so fast.
- The brass is making some of the same mistakes as Vietnam, at least initially.
Hannity seemed to not want to deal with the criticism, either because he was up against a break or didn't want to lend credence to Hack's claims (I think the latter).

OK, now that a guy with pretty decent credentials has come out and said it, do you think he's right, and is our brass up to changing with the circumstances?

Hackworth Accuses Leadership of Not Responding to the Reality of Enemy Tactics Hackworth should drop the "worth" from his name. He's starting to sound like the BBC.

Hackworth just likes to hear himself talk.

"pretty decent credentials"
He's a Col. I have heard this nutcase on H/C before. Sometimes he has something credible to say, most times he's way out in left field.

I respect the man. He is a just a hack talking head now though.

Thank you COL Hackworth for faithful service to our nation as a soldier. Now please go back to the ranch in Australia. Your sheep are bleating for you.

I don't know how anyone except CENCOM knows exactly what is happening at all points. No one else can see the big picture. Everything anyone else says is conjecture.

Hey Hack, we only need another six years, and another 57,900 casualties, before it becomes the Vietnam quagmire you can't get out of your head.

Some of those things are obviously true, but it doesn't make it a Vietnam after one week. In Vietnam, we failed to adjust enough over a period of many years. Let's see what next week brings.

Hackworth was on Hugh Hewitt yesterday and when questioned about what he was saying...he freaked...said Hewitt was in lock step and then hung up. What a self-indulgent baby...

What you are seeing is Hackworth's catering to the alarmism industry. Folks who calmly and factually report that everything is going reasonably well aren't good TV to this bunch - they want blowhards who will generate controversy in exchange for face time and money. And I'm afraid Hack has gone over to that dark side, and, irony of ironies, is now reading from the same page as one he has claimed to despise, Wesley Clark.

Colin Powell had a good line recently. He said "Every general who ever worked for me is now on TV giving opinions."
Key information not spoken: they're not working for the military anymore.

Although I didn't hear Hack and Hannity today, I believe that already the Marines and the Infantry are adjusting to the tactics of the Fedayeen and the Al Quds militiamen. FWIU, the attacks have become less frequent as the infantrymen have gone out hunting them.
In addition, there has been lots of attrition.
Methinks Hack was saying some of this stuff before Afghanistan, btw.

Chris

In this case, I rather suspect the "guerrillas" are a nuisance rather than anything to seriously worry about.

We are not going to rush into Bagdhad. We will soften it up and destroy 90% Saddam/Republican guard assets. They will not have a tank left.

I've been listening to Hackworth's naysayinng nonsense for months, and I am convinced that Hackworth is against President Bush, as well as General Franks, on a personal level. Call me crazy, but that's how I see it.
