Atlantic Ave. is the Gaza Strip of New York, with the largest Arab population (other than Detroit) in the US of A. It is closer to the Brooklyn Bridge than the Williamsburg, but only a few miles nonetheless.

[Lonesome in Massachussets]

25+ years ago I knew a Lebanese Christian Girl from Springfield Gardens. Her mother worked for Air France at JFK. She had four sisters 8-19 years old. She took me over to her aunt's brownstone near Atlantic Avenue. Her aunt owned a service station on Atlantic Avenue and kept a Haitian girlservant in virtual endentured servitude in the basement. The Haitian girl who spoke no English, brought us tea and biscuits while wearing black-with-white-lace get-up straight out of P.G. Wodehouse.

It was strange-strange world. I'm sure it's only gotten stranger since.
