The source said the Amex's concerns developed after officials learned that Braithwaite's husband, Bruce D. Cowen,
is accused of attempting to sell $5 million worth of unregistered penny stock illegally to an undercover FBI agent.

That would make the FBI suspicious (/sarcasm off).

Another good find about another lib criminal finding out that there is a controlling legal authority, now.

I believe that Kathryn Braithwaite is one of the California Rats, poster babes. I guess "was" would be more appropriate than "is". Besides that, who can define "is"?
