Turkey opposes any Kurdish attack on Kirkuk and Mosul, fearing that a share of oil wealth and greater freedom within a post-Saddam Iraq would embolden its own restive Kurdish minority.

It seems to me that if the battle for Baghdad happens, then the Kurds would have a strong motivation to go in and deal with things for themselves.
