Illbay also manages to insult somebody whenever he posts, and focusses on the negatives instead of the positives.
He's a curmudgeon, better ignored.
I notice that he did not respond to your point about those received decorations, or death, for their sevice in Viet Nam.
One of the posts on this thread points out that leadership sets the example; something the guys in Nam were woefully short on.
It's easy for those who didn't live throught those years and the trashing that our men in Nam received, to appreciate the loss of morale it generated.
Potshots are easy; soldiering is real work.

I was speaking in general, not of people specifically.
The forces in Vietnam had a very large contingent of conscripts who did NOT want to be there. I know. I attended college with some of them. They were among the most rabid in their hatred of America.
Years later I worked with another one, who had been captured by the Viet Cong at one point. He didn't hate the Viet Cong for his bad experience, he hated America.
So it goes.

Well said happygrl!!! The only comment I'll add is that before going to an all volunteer force, it was the draftees that won wars, not the regulars alone.
For the record, I am NOT old enough to be a Viet vet, but I am a Desert Storm I vet going on 20+ years in the military, enlisted and officer. I DO have nothing but the highest respect for the Vietnam vets, volunteers and draftees. Nuff said.
