U.S says Iraqi missile may have hit Baghdad market

AS SAYLIYA CAMP, Qatar, March 27 (Reuters) - Blasts in a Baghdad street that killed as many as 15 civilians may have been caused by a stray Iraqi missile or deliberate Iraqi sabotage, a U.S. military spokesman said on Thursday.

Brigadier-General Vincent Brooks told a Central Command briefing in Qatar that U.S. forces had not aimed at targets in the area, and that the blasts could have been caused by Iraqi surface-to-air missiles falling back onto the city. "We won't have a final answer until we're in Baghdad ourselves," he said.

The blasts devastated a street in northern Baghdad on Wednesday. Witnesses blamed U.S. missiles.
