Report: Marines wounded in fighting late Wednesday in Iraq
The Associated Press
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - At least 25 Marines from Camp Lejeune were injured during house-to-house fighting that began Wednesday night in An Nasiriyah, according to a WTVD-TV reporter traveling with the troops. Keith Garvin, reporting live Wednesday evening - about 2 a.m. in Baghdad - said the Marines were wounded over the past few hours in combat that had picked up "quite a bit in the last 10 minutes or so." He reported late Wednesday night that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Civilians living behind a Marine camp at An Nasiriyah were seen setting up bunkers in the afternoon, and military officials "said they had heard or felt that something bad was going to happen tonight," Garvin reported.
Intelligence reports indicated 2,000 Iraqi troops were advancing on the camp, and a two-hour fight with missiles and artillery ensued, ultimately augmented by aerial bombing, he said.
Garvin said some of the Iraqi fighters were using women as shields and had given guns to children.
"Unfortunately some of the children have been firing at our Marines and our Marines have been forced to defend themselves," he said.
The wounded appeared to be in addition to 15 Lejeune Marines who have been reported injured during the Iraqi conflict. Eleven Lejeune Marines have died, nine in combat in the An Nasiriyah area and two in accidents.

Yes, the world has changed and the fact is, we can never please the mideastern peoples - they hate us because of the fact we are not Muslims, not mideastern.
Therefore, it is time to quit crippling ourselves with worrying about appeasing them - it can't be done.
If they hate us - fine - they hate us. The only way we could please them would be to surrender to their domination in the world and I don't think they would even tolerate our presence then - they consider us nothings.
Our values of humanity are not their values. I hate to feel this way, but look at all the hatred they have nutured toward us for years. It is not anything that we do or have done - it is just hate because we are different than they are. Time for us to realize this fact and just short-circuit those in our society that make us tiptoe around to appease those that will never be appeased.
Satan is at work here and no amount of appeasement is going to change or appease Satan and his followers. They have chosen to abide by Satan and serve him - not God. All we can do is continue to serve God and do what we have to do. And, we must quit worrying about what the Satan followers think about it.

I disagree. Not with the fact that we're doing something very right, but with the idea that they're pulling out all the stops because of anything we're doing.
I stand corrected and agree with you. But I still cannot see us going nuclear -- if only due to the cost considerations and the repercussions to, say, Israel or Lebanon.

I learned all I need to know about Islam on September 11th. This is another lesson.

I'd hate to see thousands of American men sacrificed on the altar of political considerations.

Immediately after September 11th, there was a title to an article, which became an oft-heard phrase, "WE ARE ALL ISRAELIS NOW". I think 9-11 was the first time we really opened our eyes and realized what it was like to be an Israeli, you can be innocently going about your business, just showing up for work and be killed just for what you are ---and the other side will use their innocent looking children to do that. This is all about what happened on 9-11 but I guess the "peace" protestors easily forgot.

Having children fight alongside the men. Unfortunately, way too many parts of the world do this! Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge in Cambodia were notorious for doing this. In fact, I think young boys made up a significant part of his forces.

Just saw the headline...
Didn't Golda Meir say something to the effect, concerning the Palestinians, that she could forgive them for killing Israeli children, but could not forgive them for forcing the Israelis to kill Palestinian children?

Detach yourselves Marines. Detach yourselves from the mindset of being "good"; your clearing out the pit of hell right now. Your not murdering anyone, your doing your job. None of us will hold it against you.Our soldiers will need a LOT of help once they get home. I hope we as a nation are up to it, for they are seeing the most despicable of acts...the sacrifice of children in the face of oppression.
Anyone remember a particularly vile god named, "Molech"?

And this is the regime that we are supposed to leave in place and do nothing about. No matter what the cost, this regime must be eradicated. There are no ifs, ands, buts, or maybes. And if innocents die as a result, that's regretable, but also acceptable. When you cut out a cancer this large and insidious, sometimes some healthy tissue needs to be removed along with it.

If they keep it up the Iraqi's are going to get nuked. Yes indeed. It would satisfy Biblical prophecy. I don't want to see it, but if that's what must be, then it shall be. All I know is that Saddam and his entire regime must be eradicated from the face of the earth. No matter what happens, it MUST be done. We'll try to do it as intelligently as possible, and try not to hurt those who don't deserve it... but in the end, if the evil that is entrenched in that land simply won't go away easily, then harsh action will have to be taken. It's entirely possible that there is no way to expel the evil from that land, and that the only option in the end will be to destroy the land itself.
We must remember at all times that the primary mission is to remove Saddam and his regime from Iraq, and destroy his weapons, to ensure the safety of the world. Giving the Iraqi people their freedom is a laudable secondary goal... but if both are not possible, the first MUST be achieved.

None of us will hold it against you. Not even God will hold it against them. God did not ask Joshua to be compassionate with the inhabitants of Canaan.

"It would be political suicide for the U.S. in the Middle East."
I'm not so sure about that. It may, in fact, be the only thing that gets them in line, that shocks them out of the 14th Century and into the 21st. It may be the only thing that finally kills their rabid hatred and stifles their ranting and raving. It may be the only thing that finally makes them back down with a healthy fear and respect.
Here are some thoughts on how we might handle these people:

Watch "Rules of Engagement".
The movie accurately portrays the civilian attack, including children, by Muslims of an American Yemeni embassy.
Unfortunately, we will likely have to put down the entire diseased generation and start anew.

I , for one, agree that we should use nuclear weapons to sterilize this evil.
They ALREADY hate us and Israel ; let them fear us so much they will not dare attack again.

I would like to reinforce the idea, though, that these children who are targeting our soldiers are pawns. The same is true for the children of the militant Palestinians. I do NOT blame these children. The adults around the children who coerce these innocents to do their killing for them, deserve a special place in hell.
I am not a pacifist, and I would understand if our forces did have to kill in this awful circumstance. It reminds me of the shooters at the public schools, the cops MIGHT have to shoot one of these children who is heavily armed, some day in the future, to save the other children.

It is very profound that Meir had more compassion in her heart for these children, than their own Palestinian people who are supposed to shelter and protect them, had for them.
Meir was a remarkable woman.
