I respect McCaffrey. His opinion is based on his years of combat experience under Republican and Democrat commanders. The essential point that he makes, and that every general would make, is that it sure would be nice in a perfect world to have another division, particularly an armored cav division to protect supply lines.

It was Clinton who downsized the military so drastically. We lost some divisions under Clinton and civilianized logistics which is why our support troops are now having a hard time defending themselves. Wonder why McCaffrey never had a problem with the weakening of our military which he knows for a fact happened under Clinton? I don't recall ever reading that he ever resisted the downsizing. In fact, he was happy enough with Clinton that he worked for him. He is stained by his past associations.
