Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Before I leave for the dentist (again! The filling they did yesterday needs to be smoothed down as I can't bite together properly--grr), I wanted to say you've made some excellent points and observations today.

Why is the camera pointed at the TOP of the skyline? Last night it was perfect.

That was a convoy of militia types leaving Baghdad in cars, pickups, technicals etc. Between the B-52s and the artillery they're pretty much axle grease this morning.

The convoy turned out to be pickup trucks and other light vehicles. The B-52s did their "arc light" thing and the convoy no longer exists.
BTW check out the B-52 video on my homepage.

Of course the rate of bombing inside Bagdad has increased: At the beginning of the war, we could whole the country and not drop something on our guys (SOF excepted.)
Then we captured 50% of the country, and could only bomb the remaining 50%. (This was equal to capturing 1/2 of Poland - but in 4 days, instead of the German's 4 weeks and 28,000 casualties!).
Now, we have the whole country captured in 6 days (Hell! The French didn't even surrender THAT fast!) except the 50 miles around Bagdad.
They GOTTA bomb inside Bagdad. Ain't no where else they can bomb.

yes..more B-52's, Bingo Night in Baghdad...

Jeez, shut up Congressperson Tubbs-Jones. Who freakin knows how much the war will cost? You admitted you don't know and have no idea (repeated many times) how much XX billion will cover so keep your mouth shut on things you know nothing about.
Thought some humor might be good at this juncture. from the Onion:
Sheryl Crow Unsuccessful; War On Iraq Begins
WASHINGTON, DCIn spite of recording artist Sheryl Crow's strong protestations, including the wearing of a "No War" guitar strap, the U.S. went to war with Iraq last week. "Making the decision to go to war is never easy, but it's that much harder when you know Sheryl Crow disapproves," White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said at a press conference Monday. "It is this administration's sincerest hope that it can one day regain the support and trust of the woman behind such hits as 'All I Wanna Do' and 'Soak Up The Sun.'" Fleischer issued similar apologies to Martin Sheen, Janeane Garofalo, and Nelly.

Thanks ... do u have a link to any stories, cos i can't find anything? ... which seems odd considering how many times the media Cassandras mentioned it last night ... it's as if it vanished into the desert.

1. Hard news (confirmed information)

3. Significant FR Banter (go ahead and cringe but the F-16 Pirate was the highlight of my day yesterday!)

Who freakin knows how much the war will cost? Rats only worry about cost when it conerns the military.
To: All
Since all the media are trying to portray this war as a quagmire after a measely week, perhaps GWB has a mandate to go into Iran?? Afterall, if they are already convinced how horrible everything is after the world's most successful military campaign in history, how much more could they complain? sure would be funny watching the press conference with Rummy!

Id she the women that was grilling the Treasury Sec. about how much the war was going to cost? It was so pathetic, he kept responding that he had no way of knowing and didn't even know where to get that information. She was indignant and acted as if HE were the idiot. When she was done, the head of the commmitee thanked the secretary for atempting to be sec of state, defense, and treasury all in one. The whole commitee erupted with laughter.
She was so angry and said, "You may find it funny that the secretary doesn't know how much the war will cost, but I don't." How can you be a representative and lack basic understanding of how the government works? Maybe she should take a civics class.
