Various | 3/27/2003 | Me

Posted on 03/26/2003 9:04:14 PM PST by Centurion2000

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I don't think even the Rep. Guard know where their "RING" is; where their own troops are, much less how many are left in any given position......

It makes scouting the enemy more difficult when the enemy isn't/can't use the radio; doesn't know where they are; and doesn't know who in charge.

Yes. Good points. The senate dems also noticed this sea change that occurred roughly over the weekend based on their taking a more aggressive stance on the tax cut this Tues vs last Fri.

Does any one know the status of the 1st Infantry Division (the Big Red One)? I wonder if they will wind up in Northern Iraq.

We needed more troops. He needed more forces on the ground before we executed.

He's all over the place, trying to save his butt.

61% believe the war in Iraq is part of bigger war on terrorism -

69% think Pres. Bush is doing a good job w/ Iraq war -

79% support our military action in Iraq -

The American people are listening to the admin. and not to the mainstream media. (^:

Brian Williams (any relation to Robin?) is out of his element — he's with real Americans for a change.

>>People in the third world don't recall that the reason Lyndon Johnson lost support was not because our men were dying, but because they were dying for no reason and no sight of victory<<

People here don't recall it either.

Remember WHY Vietnam was a big clusterf*ck BUMP!

It goes against my nature to stick up for the media...but in this instance i don't think the media is entirely to blame. Nor do i feel our military/political leaders are at fault either. We took a stab at getting a quick capitulation but it just hasn't worked yet. The media has simply picked up on the vibes it was getting out of Washington that there was a chance we could get this thing over with without much resistance. For instance i remember Bill Krystal going on Fox, not long after we had attempted to shish kebab Saddam, and him saying something to the effect that "this might be a war that was finished with just a single blow" and he was bubbling over with what a brilliant and brazen decision it was by the President to order a strike on Saddam. So the feeling was there. And the media picked up on it.

But i definitely do agree that the majority of the media is shaping it in a very anti-Bush way, making it sound as though this has been a great blow against us rather than presenting it as it really is - that the leadership boldly took a shot at ending things quickly to try to prevent American and Iraqi casualties plus to help keep the region more stabilized, that it didn't work out quite as they had hoped, and that now we just have to buckle up and prepare for the type of war everyone expected (though some of the expectations were far worse than the reality has been so far).

Amen to that brother..people forget how LBJ had a sand table of Vietnam built in the WH..he'd personally approve EVERY target.....what a joke....the only bigger clown was Robert STRANGE McNamara ( was ever a man more aptly named?)..I saw the pics of Rummy hosting a luncheon for former SecDefs a few days ago..he was shaking hands with McNamara...I'm surprised he could stomach it...
