[history]
WASHINGTON --Iraq has tried to manipulate world opinion in recent months in an effort to prevent the United States from using its most effective armor-penetrating shells, the kind that decimated the Iraqi tank fleet in the Persian Gulf War, U.S. military officials say.

The health problems in Basra and other areas of S. Iraq are caused by low-level exposure to Saddam's mustard gas, not DU.
Yup.

I have done much reading of this very subject. I find it ironic how all the morons in this world try to equate depleted uranium with any affliction on humans. Basically, DU is 70% as radiated as the soil & rocks we all step on daily. Even by UN Environmental Program & WHO studies. They just won't let the lie die!

Not to quibble but I think if you were inside of a tank or anything else hit by one of these shells and it was ricocheting around inside, I don't care if it was made of cute little kittens, it's gotta hurt.

Return to Tank Ammunition Main Called the "Silver Bullet" of the Gulf War, the M829A1 was last produced for the U.S. Army in December 1993. Prior to that, GD-OTS produced more than 250,000 M829A1 cartridges. As with all 120mm tank ammunition produced by GD-OTS, this cartridge is compatible with all standard NATO smoothbore 120mm tank cannons.

They have been pushing their anti-DU campaign for years. Babies with three heads, six-legged dogs the size of houses, cancer of little-known organs. They'll do better to go back to smoking ordinary tobacco.

It takes a lot of gall for the Iraqi's who had no problem using chemical and likely biological agents on their own people to have this new found concern for children.

Sorry. So true. I had on my "laboratory" hat, not my "field" hat. I work with the designers of the M829A1, so I'm thinking in terms of occupational hazard as engineer, not soldier. How foolish of me.

As soon as the UN gets DU banned they will join the EU initiative to make the world lead-free too! We will have to face future tyrants with "Green", biodegradable bullets!
