LOL! I am still trying to figure it out and I'm in the Air Force! :)
Flight > Squadron > Group > Wing > MAJCOM?
But what about the numbered Air Forces?

I know there are supposed to be pictures. When I was at the school, my boss, the CO of the Target Acquisition Department, had a picture in his office of an 11" crater that department lore said was supposed to be the famous one, but on close inspection it was on a road adjacent to the range. I have heard other Ft.Sill old timers claim to have pictures in which you can see builidngs and/or street signs, but a fairly concerted effort to find one in 1978 failed to turn up an authentic picture. I suspect it was real, thoguh, because one of the DA civilians in the survey department (dave) at that time was there when it was supposed to have happened and he swore up and down it was real. Nothing in the archives of the Post newspaper, though. I never did check the Lawton paper archives.

No, I suppose not. :-)
Nonetheless, the story seems to be universally believed, and I am inclined to credit it save for one thing: it's just too perfect to have hit the middle of the intersection (where all reports place the round) of Sheridan & Gore, unless it was intentional. (In which case it would have been only sort of believable given the rather large range probable error for the 240mm -- did you ever look at those firing tables? I did, and the RPE was something 2-300 yards at 10 miles. Greater than those for the 175mm gun or the old Long Tom 155mm gun. Deflection probable errors were smaller. On the other hand, given the average gun bunny's view of Lawton and its 'charms'....)
