DOHA: A prominent Doha-based Iraqi Shi'ite scholar says a fatwa issued by their imam in Najaf asking the community to fight the allied forces has united their sect and the Sunnis back home.
In remarks to The Peninsula yesterday, the scholar, who teaches Arabic in a school in Doha, claimed that the fatwa might have prompted a peasant near Karbala to hit a US war helicopter with an old rifle (known as burno in local parlance) recently.
Asking not to be identified, the scholar, who hails from the war-ravaged south-eastern city of Basra, said an Iraqi Shi'ite dare not defy the fatwa of Najaf's imam for the fear of isolation from the community and being branded as an infidel.
"The fatwa has actually united the Shi'ites and Sunnis in our country," he said. That explains why the allied forces are meeting stiff human resistance in the southern areas of Iraq, which are Shi'ite dominated.
There are huge Shi'ite populations in cities like Al Nasriyah, Najaf, Karbala and Basra where intense fighting is currently going on. Najaf and Karbala, among them, are holy Shi'ite sites, he said.
As for Basra, it is an ancient city and has seen innumerable wars and battles. "For its people, this is just another war and they know how to defend their city," he stated.
He said the allied forces could face challenges once the summer arrives with intolerably hot and sandy winds begin blowing across the southern regions. Summer normally sets in by the middle of April, he added.
Having fought wars over the past two decades, the Iraqi forces have become quit accustomed to fighting in this region during all year round, including the sizzling summer months, said the scholar.
"It won't affect our troops, but the allied forces will have two equally ferocious enemies to fight: our soldiers and the vagaries of nature," he said.

So why are there reports of Basra citizens killing fedayeen in hand to hand combat. Give this mullet-mullah an enema and you could place him in a thimble.

OH yeah? Well just you wait you 'prominent Doha-based Iraqi Shi'ite scholar' who is 'asking not to be identified'. The Southern Baptists are joining with the Lutherans, Episcopalians and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They plan to visit each and every tent, hut and hovel in Iraq and pester you all to the point of insanity by using dreaded Jehovah Witness tactics. Then we will unleash our army of telemarketers on your communications system. I can't say when but it will probably start right around dinner time.
BUWAAAHAAA!!!

It can't be that easy. Islam would rule the world, resistence would be futile, sorry I'm not buying it.
