"some people opposed to the war have approached ROTC students and aggressively expressed their opinions."

Standing tall and proud isn't easy but I hope they do.

I'm sure there are some out there who would be ~shocked~ to learn that there are some college applicants who are actually ruling out universities without ROTC programs. The horror of it all! ;-)

I'm not at all worried about the ROTC students. They can kick a$$, but more likely will just feign a jump and scare off any wackos.

she will allow students to skip wearing their uniforms for some classes as a means of lowering their ‘‘profile.’’

Maybe it isn't the students we have to worry about, but what about the leadership????

More "back to the future" 1960's wannabees trying to burn the ROTC buildings..... yawn. Back then no one wore uniforms on campus. 'Course, when I was at VMI, we never wore ROTC uniforms, we had our own.

From our perspective at VMI, most of the ROTC types were very "gung ho" as the expression went, very enthusiastice 'drill twice a week' types without a very good idea what being in the military was all about. They tended to be very 'chicken' as the expression went, sticklers for minuteae that we who lived under a military system 24/7 had long ago realized was counterproductive. It was often a real culture clash when we had to work together: they didn't understand our casual attitude combined with better military skills and tactical understanding; we didn't understand their combination of enthusiasm, mickey mouse and incompetence in areas we took for granted.

She said she’s concerned about reports that some people opposed to the war have approached ROTC students and aggressively expressed their opinions.

B.S. Last time I checked Iowa wasn't in some high risk Southwest Asian country, although some of it's leftist populace acts like it is. I'd say that the PMS there is taking the wrong approach and sending the wrong message to the cadets and the pressure is coming from the school administration who see this as the easy way to solve their problem.

Reminds me of my old spit upon college days while in uniform near the end of the Vietnam war. All it did was steel my resolve. The experience, as vile as it was, helped mold me and paid dividends not only for for me but for the Army I served.
