Cates Chose To Drown Out Michael Moore (LOL!!!)
IMDB.com ^ | 3-26-2003

Posted on 03/26/2003 8:39:07 AM PST by Paul Atreides

Oscars producer Gil Cates drowned out Best Documentary award winner Michael Moore with music on Sunday night to prevent a clash at the Kodak Theatre. Cates feared those booing and those applauding the outspoken Bowling For Columbine director would provoke ugly scenes, so he chose to cut off his controversial anti-war speech early. But Cates was happy to kill the music and let Best Actor winner Adrien Brody have a few extra moments to pay tribute to a pal fighting in Iraq. Cates says, "I thought it was inappropriate for Michael Moore to start calling names but I was happy to let Adrien Brody have his moment. It was a great speech."

Also on the same page... Moore "Delighted" with Speech Reception

Bowling For Columbine director Michael Moore was delighted with the response to his anti war tirade when accepting an Oscar for best documentary. Moore didn't think he was going to win the Oscar at the Sunday ceremony - and thought he might remain silent if he did. Before the awards he said, "I may say nothing - just ask for a moment of silence and stand there for those 45 seconds." But he's delighted he changed his mind. Despite a generally unimpressed reception from the audience, he labels the response to his out-burst "wonderful." He added, "The people that seemed to disagree with it all seemed to be in one section - up in the balcony."

Yeah, Mr. Man-o-the-People made sure to point out that the booing came from the rabble.

Michael Moore is an idiot. Here he spends years hoping to get recognition by Hollywood. When he finally gets it he craps in his own face. What a fricking idiot!

The bastard will most likely make a movie of the war and benifit from that as well! Do we need to ask if he ever served in the military?

That's not what I heard. Cates may have TRIED to drown out Moore's "fiction" with music, but it still wasn't loud enough, given that everyone in the "balconey" heard it as well as everyone watching by T.V. Heck, I heard every word....and all I could think was "they're letting him get away with spewing his 'fictional' drivel."

Yeah, common folk.

BTW, I heard Ed McMahon on Howard Stern yesterday and he went off on Michael Moore. Called him a fool and said he wished "Moore and his attitude" could spend six weeks on Parris Island with a drill instructor in his face.

Although Brody didn't sound as idiotic as Moore (don't think that's humanly possible), his speech was pathetic. He's supposed to be some great thinker and have some great insight into war and suffering now because he starred in a Holocaust movie. He sounded weak and his emotion didn't come across as genuine. And sorry, just because you (Brody) did the PC thing by giving equal time to Allah, the Islamonuts would still be more than happy to slit your throat.

I wish he could spend a year in pre-war Iraq. He might lose that socialist attitude as well as that fat gut.

I thought it was quite ironic, in fact -- he won an award for playing a part in a HOLOCAUST movie, which was only ended by war . . .

The movie he won best actor for, in fact, can be seen as a great example of *why* we go to war.

I thought those people were supposed to be the people he has some sort of "greater calling in life" to speak for. You know, the little people.

Well it sounded to me like the "little people" were telling him to pound sand!
