Pin-ups, Playmates and products for our guys and gals fighting in Iraq

NEW YORK - U.S. troops in Iraq will soon be able to adorn their quarters with the 21st Century's answer to World War II pin-ups, as the publisher of Maxim and Stuff ships free copies of the men's lifestyle magazines to their mailboxes. Dennis Publishing said on Tuesday it is shipping 15,000 free copies of Maxim, Stuff and its musical magazine Blender to 40 different military tent sites across Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Afghanistan and Oman. Dennis Publishing's magazines are noted for their scantily clad cover models, like the curvy girls drawn by Peruvian-born artist Alberto Vargas that became one of the biggest morale-boosters among servicemen in the 1940's. Playboy Enterprises Inc. will not send copies of its legendary namesake magazine to the front. Instead, the company plans to set up an e-mail address where U.S. servicemen around the world can sign up to receive non-nude pictures and a message from the famed Playmates. Publishers are also reaching out to the G.I. Janes. Long before the war started, Hearst Corp. sent issues of its Marie Claire magazine along with skin care products to female soldiers at the front after receiving a letter from them asking for some entertainment material.

I will buy a copy today! Maxim is a FUNNY FUNNY magazine (it really is) and has a somewhat supportive conservative leaning. Very little about politics, and mostly just a very strange humor.

I like this gesture on their part. I think it deserves reward by purchasing a copy.

With women in the forces, isn't this sort of stuff considered sexual harassment by the PC crowd.

I'm in the process of organizing a letter writing and care package campaign with my son's school (4th and 5th graders). I really need some input on what kind of donations to request. I know that non-perishable food items are always appreciated, as well as toiletries, but if anyone has the inside scoop on what the troops in Iraq *really* need and are authorized to have, I would appreciate it!
Thanks in advance!

This is why they hate us. This is the kind of crap that they point to when they talk of the Great Satan. Campus Crusade is sending bibles over there, and you schmucks have to undermine their efforts. BTW, I like curvy naked bods as much as anybody, but we need to show just a little restraint to set us apart from the animals. Think about it.

kAcknor Sez:

I don't care why they hate us. They hate us!  The only way we could get them not to hate us would be to become Muslim ourselves. Anything short of that and they will hate us.

So why bother?

Reminding the troops why they fight worked before, I bet it will work again. ;)

ROFLMAO - they need to save their money, unless, of course, it is another cynical fund raising ploy.

Believe me, the fun stuff will do a lot more for the morales of soldiers in their 20s than a bunch of bibles. Besides, the bad guys will hate us regardless.

I was thinking about sending them a case of Gold Bond powder.
