March 25, 2003-- As images of American prisoners and Iraqi casualties beamed home the brutal realities of war, Long Islanders yesterday rallied in shows of support for the troops. How that support was expressed, however, varied widely.
Roughly 1,000 people, many of them veterans, sang "God Bless America" at Levittown Veteran's Memorial Park during a rally in support of American soldiers last night, Some in the crowd cupped their hands around candles, while others carried placards that showed their support for the troops.

Seven year old Adam sat on the shoulders of his father, Richard Herbert, at the rally in Levittown, While Herbert held a sign that said, "Troops: Thank You."
" I felt guilty sitting at home with my family while anti-war demonstrators were voicing their opinions and the American troops were fighting for my freedom," said Herbert, 34, of Levittown. The least I could do was to come here and show my support
Nassau County Republican chairman Joseph Mondello, who hosted the rally, said, " I believe in the first amendment, but there are people that take it a step too far.
"I've actually heard some people wishing that we'd be unsuccesful in our endeavors out there. And they, in my mind, border om crossing the line to becoming traitorous."
