Police officer cut phone lines to sleep off hangover
An Austrian police officer has been fined £1,000 for cutting the emergency phone cables at a police station so he could sleep off his hangover.
The officer admitted to being drunk when he started his night shift at the Leibnitz police station in Styria, according to Austrian daily Krone.
He slashed the telephone cables and switched off the radio set so he would not be disturbed and left the police station unable to receive emergency calls for the entire night.
He said: "I was drunk and wanted to have peace and quiet to sleep off my hangover."
He appeared in court, charged with criminal damage, where he was suspended from duty, as well as being fined.

My favorite: Chief Wiggum, at bat in a softball game when the police radio announces a robbery in progress, yells "Turn that thing off!!"
