Just monitored on Sky News: embedded reporter says Shiites in Basra have begun, in his words, a "popular uprising" against the Saddam forces still in the city. British Army units are "pouring" artillery into the city (likely isolated areas) preparing to move in.

Not by a long shot.

local people had indicated they would welcome the Allied forces but were in fear of Saddam loyalists. I would believe that's the position of most of Iraq.

They don't want to do anything that would tend to prop up an Arab state right next door to them. Iranians are Persian; ethnicity counts for a LOT.
Blood is thicker than religion in this instance; plenty of Iraqi Shias fought hard (including Shia generals) against the Iranians in the Iran-Iraq War.
Arabs and Persians really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really dislike each other, which is amusing because Americans often confuse Iranians with Arabs. And to an Arab or Persian, you can tell one from the other simply by appearance easily, even though we can't.

We need to stand back and let the Iraqis wipe out the Baathist thugs and gangsters. We will do nobody a favor by going soft on them, they will be a viper under our shirt as long as they live. Let the Iraqis finish them off, many thousands need the Mussolini end treatment.

Do you hear the people sing Lost in the valley of the night? It is the music of a people Who are climbing to the light. For the wretched of the earth There is a flame that never dies. Even the darkest night will end And the sun will rise.
They will live again in freedom In the garden of the Lord. They will walk behind the plough-share, They will put away the sword. The chain will be broken And all men will have their reward.
Will you join in our crusade? Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade Is there a world you long to see?
Do you hear the people sing? Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that they bring When tomorrow comes!

"Think about this: If Iraq wanted to demoralize the US by beaming subversive propaganda disguised as legitimate cable news into the country, how different would it look from CNN?
The point is that CNN has been trying so hard to be what it considers objective, it's become unmoored from reality and has effectively assumed an anti-US position."
Did you catch the story the other day about the L.A. protestors attempting to storm the CNN HQ there? We laughed, thinking - and how would that change the programming? Stupid protestors!

what network can I use to find the official comments of the British Army? Australians? United States of America? Drat these sandstorms! is an "embedded" source an "official source"? Show me the graves and the bodies, please. I need something less "spiritual" than this "referenced" source. I wonder what they say on the radio? Is there static, perhaps? I thought we were in the age of "digital" communications where you can always here the sound of a pen drop : )
