DETROIT-- Detroit police reportedly arrested and then released four men near the Detroit Water and Sewerage Plant Tuesday morning.
The men were arrested around 3 a.m. near a plant intake facility near Dearborn and West Jefferson Avenue along the Detroit River in southwest Detroit, Local 4 reported. Several manhole covers in the area were reportedly removed and the men were found with a laptop computer and binoculars.
Federal authorities and Detroit police questioned the men. The suspects were released, but authorities kept their computer to investigate, according to the station's reports.
City of Detroit security and officers from the Detroit Police Department's 4th Precinct reportedly patrol the area. The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department supplies water to the city of Detroit and several suburbs in the metro area, the station reported.

"It's funny as heck to read all the people screaming about these persons' release, who haven't got a clue about investigating or surveilling these guys. Of course, these same people are screaming on other threads to light up Hitler's gas ovens for all Muslims..."
with good reason to be screaming about their release.....men found at 3am near a water facility with binoculars and a lap top and the man hole covers just happened to be open?...
if there is more to the story, please enlighten us...

I live in the Detroit area too. I'm breaking into my bottled water supply after reading this. I don't feel safe knowing the Detroit cops are "investigating".

There seems to be alot of information missing in this article. Potable water treatment plants and sewer treatment plants are generally not located in the same place. If they were in the manholes, that would not affect drinking water, only the sewer. And was this a sanitary sewer manhole or a storm drainage manhole. They are usually not the same either. Also, sewer treatment plants are usually downstream of the water treatment plant if the utility pulls water from the river. However, if they were going to use the manholes as a means of entry, that would all be different.

they probably had to let em go or Joe Berwanger VP of channel 4 would be doing an editorial on what an outrage it is that authorities are targeting the arab community.

The facts as related sound suspicious enough that I'm wondering why on earth they were released.
Hopefully the FBI was brought in so they could "keep an eye" on these guys...
and see if they scurry back to the big roach nest of terrorists.

I dunno, lately I'd be more inclined to trust the CIA, DIA, NRO, Or some other intelligence aganecy more than the FBI.
They lost several people they were following when their lead guy dropped his donuts and coffee..

Doesn't Detroit have a high population of Muslims? If so, I guess some Muslims are more equal than others...

I worry that the politically correct climate of this country is what makes authorities hesitant to detain men like this, for fear of "racial profiling" accusations. Kind of like when a commander doesn't take "Anti-American" comments from a black Muslim soldier into account before that soldier turns against his own country and comes out shooting, huh? The POLITICALLY-CORRECT philosophy will eventually ruin America. That much, I am sure of. Wait another 20 years when it's been engrained into THOUGHT POLICING. The left has only started.....

That's what I noticed. Any other time would get a "slap you upside the head" dose of what nationality these men were. They probably are muslim but you know how we are not allowed to racially profile during a war and under the "High" terror alert.
Computer had a sticker on it that said "Property, US Government (Y2K approved). Some one will get a medal for recovering it.

Think so.
A few have mentioned such, and I would guess it is correct that some muslims are more equal than others.

Early morning (around 6 or 7) local news (can't remember if it was NBC or ABC -- I was surfing both), reported these as middle eastern men.
I don't recall hearing anything about this 'incident' on the local ABC noon news.

That's my question ... why on earth were the people released ...??
This is the same kind of problem they had somewhere in the east where they let the guys go - and then later had to put out an all-points to find them - which they did, but they could have saved themselves a lot of problems by holding the guys in the first place. Besides, what could it hurt - just because you are arrested, doesn't mean you will be charged.

Hmmm? I've had FOX on all day, and I haven't heard a thing about the Toronto incident. I'll look for it! It is interesting thought that right after that the guys at Detroit incident happened. I still cannot believe they let the guys go.
