[history]
Americans, in the White House and on down, ought to be livid over reports that Russian companies are selling equipment and technical services to Iraq's military - with the apparent knowledge of the Putin government. And even as coalition forces are fighting to disarm the Iraqi regime.

Shocking that so many are shocked at what Russia is doing.
About time for a history lesson over the 20th century, regarding Russian attempts to defeat this nation.
The end of the Soviet Empire did not end the desire of some in that country and other fellow travlers, to gain global control, he!! we elected a socialist two times and saw the perverseness and lawlessness of their method of governance.

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, of course, denies his government has done anything wrongThis may be a half truth...Is the Russian Government guilty of selling the devices or are russian COMPANIES?
Regardless its wrong, but methinks the Russian Mob may be behind much of this and the Russian GOvernment doesn't have a firm grasp of what goes on in her country...

Some of their betrayel was bombed this morning, so that should make us feel a little better. You can't say G.W. didn't give Putin a heads up!

The notion that Russia is one of our allies is absurd. China and Russia are rivals of the USA period.

Ahhh... J.R Nyquist has been saying that the Russians are out to get us for a while now. I am sure he is suprised by none of this. I am only amazed at their patience.
Just read some of his columns and you'll see what I mean:

There is a rock song that goes "everybody wants to rule the world". This is not possible so now "everybody wants to rule their country" The US model is that through a system of checks and balances, no one gets to rule. This model scares a lot of people in other countries who prefer a "command and control" model. They fear the US model so much, that they actively conspire to weaken the US.

When a man or a nation refuses to admit their mistakes, then the world will mistrust the man or nation even when he does good deeds.
Three years ago, the Clinton regime bombed a totally innocent slavic orthodox nation into the stone age for the benefit of narco-terrorists and to take a credible rape allegation against Clinton off the front pages of American newspapers.
Granted I can tell the difference, but I cannot easily fault the Russians if, seeing some major new and to them similar thing just three years later, they start to view this sort of thing as a psychiatric problem on our part.
My own approach would be to hand Kosovo back over to its rightful owners (Serbia), pay to rebuild Serbia, hang Clinton, Albright, Wesley Clark et. al., and somehow see to it that Russia did not suffer unduly from any collapse in oil prices brought about by the conflict in Iraq. That in my view would fix the problem. Iraq cannot conceivably be anything more than a money problem to the Russians, unlike Serbia which is blood kin.

Partly the Russian mob selling stolen stuff, partly the fact that some countries (the Ukraine and Syria being the most likely suspects, IMO) are acting as "straw buyers" for Saddam.

China should be right in the middle of the list of suspected friendly nations that can't wait to cut our throats. We seem to have a problem with our foreign policy generated by our state department. It seems that there is so much trust in cooperative action for the mutual good (socialism) that they cannot deal with nations that protect their national interests.
Reality suggests that China, Russia, France, etc. are interested in their own agenda while the US holds a world view and collective approach to public policy. We should not be surprised that we see foreign countries arrayed against us for their own personal interests. Collective security versus national security seeks different approaches to problems.

It's not the only country to do so. What about Ukraine, Belarus, Croatia, Serbia-Montnegro, Bulgaria, Albania, or China? They also all sell weapons to Iraq. What should we do about them?
To: conservativecorner
There's one other basic truth in all such pictures which nobody ever talks about. That is that, in order to have the kinds of weapons we need, or for the Russians to have the kinds they figure they need, and for those weapons to be affordable, we and they both have to allow the companies which make them to sell all over the world. In other words, if the US were the only buyer of F16's, we would not be able to afford F16's.
The upside to the thing with the Russians playing this game is that you or I could buy this kind of stuff just as easily as Saddam Hussein does. Check out the export section on Russarm. All you'd ever need would be the right amount of dollars, and to know who to bribe at the airport when you got back. My own favorite is the little six-wheeled NONI 120mm self-prolelled gun.
Picture having that baby on the first day of hunting season? My own guess is that Bambi and all his friends would walk out of the woods with their hands over their heads.
Russia and France don't have a pot to piss in from the standpoint of political credibility already. Just wait!
Just like Commandant Blix and the Dolt Brigade, Russia and France are gonna be joining him on stage w/ their pants down around their ankles through all of this!

The Russian Mob IS the Russian gummint!
As in "china" -- and in every one of the world's 180 or so to-some-extent-or-other totalitarian states [France, Philippines, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Columbia, Belgium, Canada, Libya, for a few examples] -- there is no real line between Russia's Mob and Russia's gummint.

Right.
Apparently Russia, France and Germany love the opportunity of voting in sanctions on a country, then going underground, breaking the sanctions they put in place, and enjoying a profitable enterprize from it.
All the while they are attempting to cast America as abusing the U.N. What about a Security Council member breaking the sanctions they themselves put in place.
Looks like Putin, former top KGB, is manipulating Bush. Playing the great friend hand while doing all to work against him. This is one time "looking into his soul" should have seen the fraud Putin is.
Putin is no friend to Bush.
