...military beach near Va. Bch. dolphins were patrolling the shores of our training/public military beach

Dam Neck beach, eh? When I was there in the early 80's, the city spent most of the winter moving the sand that storms had stripped from the commercial beach and deposited at Dam Neck. The were even talking about building a permanent converyor system! Great beach!

I think it was Dam Neck don't remember. If you are on I-64 headed TOWARDS Va. Bch. from Ocean View/Norfolk it was past Independence Rd. on the LEFT hand side (went through a gate) before actual Va. Beach tourist trap. There was a boardwalk down to the beach with a snack shack to the slight left. It was open to military families public yet watched LCU landing drills. Whereas on Amphib base beach you could only view landing training to the far left of the public beach.
