France blasts US over Iraq Tue Mar 25, 2:35 AM ET
PARIS (AFP) - French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin lashed out at the United States over Iraq (news - web sites), saying no country should "set itself up as the world's guardian."
"We could imagine tomorrow seeing force used again in other crises in the world," he told France 2 television.
"Force must only be a last resort because its use risks deepening the wounds of the world," he said in a reference to the US-led military intervention in Iraq.
"No country can set itself up as the world's guardian," he said.
Faced with various world crises, "we need to find each other," de Villepin said. "How can we resolve the crisis in the Middle East, can one state resolve the crisis in the Middle East?"
The foreign minister said Washington has "no choice" but to go through the United Nations (news - web sites).
"The United States needs the UN right now to confront the humanitarian emergency" in Iraq, he said.
France had staunchly opposed the use of military force against Iraq, instead favoring continued UN weapons inspections to defuse the crisis.
French President Jacques Chirac said on Friday that he would refuse to accept a US-British post-war administration of Iraq, saying the United Nations was the only body which could be responsible for rebuilding the country.
De Villepin said Monday that "from the moment the (US) military timetable was in place.., dialogue became more and more difficult.
"We see the diplomatic line being slowly erased and no diplomatic response is possible," he said.

The French are just posturing for the restless Islamists that are slowly taking over the majority in France and indeed, Europe. The continient is sinking under the weight of muslim immigration. Minarets and Madrassas will replace the Eiffel tower in Parisian skyline..

Note this quoue:
"we need to find each other," de Villepin said.
I think Americans have pretty well "found" the francies, they are the only ones having a problem "finding" themselves....
