Baghdad, Iraq: Al-Thawrah (Internet Version-WWW) in Arabic 23 Mar 03 [Article by Malik Mansur: "Iraq's Oil Belongs to the Iraqi People" ]
It seems that lying, twisting the facts, and fabricating stories and events that have no factual basis has become the only language that the murderous war criminals in Washington and London can speak. Among the ridiculous and distasteful lies that those criminals disseminate in an astonishing manner is their accusation that the Iraqi authorities are setting the oil wells on fire. It is a false accusation and a failed attempt by the war criminals to show that they care about preserving Iraq's oil resources. They are trying to use this lie as part of their filthy psychological warfare against Iraq, to mislead the world, and to cover up the real facts.
Iraq has made it clear that the oil wells are the property of the Iraqi people who take pride in the achievements made by the creative efforts of Iraqi minds in preserving the country's oil installations and rebuilding what has been damaged by those evil aggressors. What is burning in that area is no more than artificial trenches filled with oil to be used as obvious methods of defense. Nevertheless the dastardly war criminals persist in their lies and continue to talk about burning the oil wells. It seems that they are paving the way for further crimes that they plan to perpetrate. Perhaps one of their objectives is to set the Iraqi oil wells on fire and destroy the oil installations to avenge their failures and their impending defeat.
By resorting to this cheap lie, the criminals and enemies of humanity, stability, and peace are trying to give the impression that they care more about Iraq's oil and oil installations that their Iraqi owners. It is a lie that no one can believe. Furthermore this lie provides the world's nations with an official and clear admission that reinforces these nations' conviction that the aim of the tyrannical US-British aggression against Iraq is to seize its oil resources in addition to other subsequent objectives.
The war criminal Rumsfeld and the other criminals with him, who speak with noticeable insistence about Iraq's oil wells, need to understand that Iraq's oil will be the sole property of the Iraqi people. The Iraqis, the rightful owners of the land, the proprietors of the rights, the people of zeal and chivalry, and the authors of sagas and exceptional feats of heroism throughout ancient and contemporary history will, by their united resolve, derail once and for all the colonialists' designs and ambitions.
The tyrannical US-British aggression against our country and people will suffer a crushing defeat. This is the decisive battle. The invaders who crossed the border into our chaste territory will fall into a conflagration from which none of them can emerge safe except those who are lucky enough to surrender in time or be captured. Iraq's oil will belong to the Iraqi people alone.
It should.
If the revenue from the oilfields was divvied up amongst the citizens of the respective middle east countries it would kick up thier standard of living to a degree few of them could imagine.
Instead, a great portion of the people depend upon International aid for survival while a few hoard wealth that could not be spent in many lifetimes while regarding the poor as little more than a resource to be spent at whim.
