Multiple ^ | 25 March 2003 | Various

Posted on 03/24/2003 8:59:27 PM PST by An.American.Expatriate

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Most all of the analysts on FOX have good points. Wasn't he going nuts the other night about gas? I thought that was out of character. Must have had a few drinks with dinner before his appearance. Also, today was the first time I've heard analysts talk about troops coming from the west after several FReepers including myself have been posing this for days. All these 'experts' blend by now, but I recall him being ok.

Fox - USA Today reporting that Delta Force tapped Saddam's phone lines and we had humint telling us where he was.

You'd think Sodomy would have at least one secure phone in each bunker.

"How long will it take to ship the 4th's tanks and heavu equipment to the ME?"

I believe it's already there. Sat waiting in the Med Sea while turkey flip-flopped, most(?) already to the south, getting or waiting to be unloaded. just need to get the troops there to match up

No, we haven't. When we do, almost all of Baghdad will go dark. It kills every microchip in the blast radius.

We get information generally long after troops are engaged, the movements have been made, and contact with the enemy has been made. Any Iraqi intel has already been developed. An Iraqi intel officer watching CNN would know only where our forces were a hour or two ago, or longer, or that they were engaged in a fight - which he would know already. Point is, what we see on TV is way old intel from a battlefield perspective.

I think we're getting a lot of useful information every time they broadcast.

THat is my guess, otherwise we would have cut the lines somehow

All phones have to have an external line. Somewhere it can be tapped and decrypted.

No, or else the lights, tv, radio, etc. would be out. We aren't using it because of the humanitarian results, ie. hospitals.

The two that USA Today broke: that Delta tapped Saddam's phone, and that we have/had someone on the inside

USA Today Snippet:

Intelligence and military sources said that intercepted communications, captured Iraqi generals, spy satellites and aircraft are being used to try to track Saddam's movements. It's a difficult task, the sources said, because he can move from bunker to bunker via underground tunnels in Baghdad.

But two intelligence gains have given U.S. officials more hope. Intelligence sources said Delta Force commandos in Baghdad have tapped Saddam's underground phone lines, and said the CIA has recruited an Iraqi official who knows where Saddam sleeps.

Some of the bunkers are 300 feet underground and are beneath mosques, hospitals and schools to keep coalition forces from bombing them, U.S. intelligence officials said.
