***Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - Day 6 - LIVE THREAD***
Multiple ^ | 25 March 2003 | Various

Posted on 03/24/2003 8:59:27 PM PST by An.American.Expatriate

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

We have equipment that can see thru the sandstorm. By going in close now we can locate the GPS address for Iraqi military emplacements and bomb them.

Glad someone is paying attention. BTW heard anything from N Korea lately? ~ cibco

about to go out and show the Iraqis the reason why the Royal Army is considered the best in the world

Since they spend so much less on their military than we do; have a much smaller pool of talent; and are less likely to get experience in combat -- I wonder whether some British troops could be "the best".

I understand that political problems with the Nepalese government kept the Gurkhas out of this war. How and ever, I suspect that the war itself is about to play out as we planned.

Chris, I'm certain that I saw a photo of Gurkha troops in action in Kuwait last week. I'll see if I can find the reference again.

I'm enjoying your analysis. I've heard little about the forces we are massing to the west, save that the 101st Airborne and a brigade of the 82nd is out there, and the 173 Airborne Brigade is coming. Know any more?

Regards,

Tony

I heard a reporter trying to bait the POW's father to blame President Bush. He would not.

This is a great article.

Moral lines are clarified. In Tarantinoland, all characters are venal or stupid -- as incompetent as they are violent -- inhabiting a world without hope. Tell that to the Iraqi who finally got to pound his shoe against the shredded poster of Saddam, courtesy of the 1st Marines. I'd say in his universe, there are bad guys and there are good guys -- he'd be incredulous if you tried to persuade him otherwise. And life is suddenly not hopeless at all.

I believe that ComCentCom has realized that outfits like the Fedayeen Saddam and the Ba'athist party militia need uncompromising and ruthless action taken against them.

Just saw an interesting report on MSNBC from Mike Taibbi (I think?) on the Iraq/Jordan border saying they've been waiting for refugees that have not come from Iraq.

However, he reported that "hundreds" of Iraqis who have been hanging out in Jordan are returning to Iraq to "join the resistance" against the U.S. and Coalition forces. He noted they are hearing reports of cities that have not been secured, such as Basra, and they intend to go help out the Fedayeen, per this reporter. He even helpfully showed video of these guys in a restaurant with a tv on showing war coverage and then they took off, ostensibly to fight for Saddam.

FNC showing bombing in BAG. Good grief, why can't they get that palace (or whatever it is) blown off the face of the earth? It's still standing after strikes from day one.

Does anyone know if our military has used any MOAB's yet?

It seems like we need to be dropping a few of these on the republican guards outside Baghdad....

No kidding. This business of interviewing the families of our troops during a time of extreme grief and stress is just plain wrong. Fox has done it a couple of times, but CNN has gone way over the top with this junk. Its not news, it is just pure sensationalism-- getting the tears of the grieving wife in a close-up... it is sickening.

Good morning everybody!! Did I miss anything?? I hear there's a war on? :-)

Just a note: if the mainstream media is left to its own devices during the weekends - with only the FoxNews weekend crew to keep them in check - the hysteria, deception and uninformed opining will continue to mislead the people, hurt our economy, endanger our troops and comfort our enemies.

Oh, and mainstream press, I don't buy your condescending "concern" for the humanitarian condition of the Iraqi people. If you were honestly "concerned" with the welfare of the Iraqi people, you'd support our President and our war effort and stop choosing to believe pro-Saddam liars who have tormented these people for 30 years. The facts don't back up your daily carping. Shut up. Pay attention to the CENTCOM briefings and spare us your pretensions. You, too, Kofi and Hans - you further endangered our troops by lying about WMDs and pushing us into sandstorm season. (rant over)

We've destroyed six of those jamming devices and CENTCOM says they play no part in altering our plans. Severe sandstorm. Hart Bldg was evacuated for a drill.
