Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...
TOPICS: Breaking News; Foreign Affairs; War on Terror

He's talking about prisoners (Iraqi) now. The film of our two Apache helicopter pilots who are prisonors of war is chilling. If you noticed, one of the pilots takes a sip of water from a glass during the film. I couldn't help but think just how badly my hand would be shaking in that situation. That gentleman is one cool cucumber and showed absolutely no fear. My prayers are with them all.

From reports, Sky takes a lot of patience to get in, and you'll get dumped.
The broadband link is up a few responses, while the 56k link is around the beginning of the thread.

BOOM! It's still breathtaking to me no matter how many times I see this.

Yeah .. my thoughts exactly and thanks for telling me.
I just can't get over how the press are telling the world that it was the administration who was saying this war was going to be a cake walk when it was really them with their armchair generals.
Disgusting.

I absolutely agree that the war on terror is just...
State sponsored terrorism still exists... Hizbollah/Iran is just one of many examples.
They did learn the lesson of Libya, didn't they?
You are right about changing the attitude of the civilian...who have been raised on tales of the USA - the Great Satan, the reason for all the misery in the world...
That is who we are battling for as we march toward Baghdad... For if terror is going to be defeated, then it will need to be defeated in the breeding grounds of disaffected Arabs/Muslims who do see us as the ills of their society. We will have to bring them into the 21st century, whether they want to come or not...
The Osama Bin Ladins... the hard-core terrorist who see it as their duty to overthrow an inferior culture (ours) and restore Islam to its former glory... the glory the Koran demands it occupy... can only be dealt with militarily.
I am all for prosecuting the war on terror... I'm just trying to keep the big picture in mind. This war on Iraq is just the next battle in a war that will extend to many fronts and be fought many ways... You see both ways in the care the Pentagon is fighting... To win the battle on the field and in the hearts of the oppressed Iraqis. Soon, the oppressed Iranians, Syrians, Saudis, etc. will see us not as the Great Satan, but true liberators...
When that happens, the PA might not be able to talk a 15 year old girl into walking into a Jewish kindergarden and murder 5 years old in the name of Pan Arabism or Islamic fundamentalism. Or Bin Ladin won't be able to find 19 murderers willing to turn planes into missles...
Only then, will the war be truly won...

In GWI armored troops (troops as in "companies") took out whole divisions. We have more that enough for those RG units, believe me.

Go easy on Kondracke. He is much more sensible than most liberals, and has made considerable progress from left to moderate over the past several years.
Kondracke also, I am told, recently lost his beloved wife to Parkinson's disease after a long, long battle and has handled his grief with composure and class.
Kondracke is not to be confused with mean-spirited liberals like Judy Woodruff and husband Al Hunt, not to mention Margaret Carlson and Mark Shields, all of whom are just vicious.

Message to Saddam and Company - putting your weapons next to a water treatment plant isn't going to work this time; we can take them out without disturbing the plant.
The food drops are starting.

Sky News broke away from CENTCOM briefing to go to Baghdad reporter. Big explosions rolling like thunder in the distance, west of Iraq.

Sky broke away from briefing to live shots in Baghdad. Reporter hears B-52's overhead.
