Multiple ^ | 25 March 2003 | Various

Posted on 03/24/2003 8:59:27 PM PST by An.American.Expatriate

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

We don't want to win this battle... and lose the war.

-bump-

The adults are in charge. It's easy to become swept up in the sound-bite of the moment (you aren't).

That would be the one that, up until Sky shut itself off to me, I was watching. It's still down.

In other feed news, the CNN/CBS feed just switched to night vision mode.

Besides whining about "too long a war," I wonder if these geniuses have yet noticed that there have been NO terrorist incidents in the USA (knock wood) due to Justice/HomeSec operations....

You have to keep hitting play over and over, eventually it will work for you. It took me about 6 minutes before it hooked up.

Of course they haven't noticed that; though they will definitely batch if one was successfully carried out that (a) we shouldn't have gone into Iraq AND (b) we should have done SOMETHING to stop them.

I just don't have that kind of patience with on-line media.

If the Iraqis were truly fighting back. we would have hundreds or even thousands of casualties. We are encountering "pockets of resistance". For the first 1/3 days, accidents caused more casualties than the Iraqis.

Just got kicked out of Sky. I think my breakfast has settled enough for me to go to the Beeb.

I try to keep an eye on what's being spread by my local media and came across this gem this morning.

Protesting Once the Fighting Starts

I'm sure Mr. Goldsborough would love to hear your opinion as he is a nationally syndicated columnist. Check out his BIO.

The shot was unbelievable--they had the engine out (and it was a big 'un) next to the tank and the mechanics from the unit Bloom is attached to swarming over it like it was NASCAR.

Plus, someone's got to collect the old oil in some old plastic jugs and run it down to the Autozone for recycling.....Bwa ha ha ha ha ha!

I fully expected the Iraqis to fight back. Seems to me that things are going quite well. We saw an opportunity last Wednesday to disrupt Iraqi command and control - and did so. While Iraqi leadership was crippled, we rushed in to take positions and establish supply west of the Euphrates nearly to Baghdad.

We have always known that the Republican Guard would fight back. I don't expect a push against them for several days, until they are severely softened.

Look at it like this - the air war against the Iraqi ground troops has just started. But we have a 250 mile head start. The RG are not only being pounded with B-52s, but also, thanks to our bold advance, artillery and close air support. Seems like a lot better option than just being in an air war, with our troops still in Kuwait and 300 miles of unknown still ahead of us...

Agreed... this morning driving to work, a reporter said that the stock market was tanking because of the "fierce" resistance of the Iraqis... something the Administration didn't anticipate...

It's nothing but propaganda... but lo and behold, a caller on the morning talk show called to talk about the "fierce" resistance.

We are on the outskirts of Baghdad... we are winning... huge... if this were a football game (and it's not) the score would be 58 to 3 mid-way through the second quarter.

Big picture, media, the big picture...
