On a tangentally related topic:

What are the chances that a big reason Turk troops are massing on the border is because, having developed an insignificant 'northern front', they expect large numbers of fleeing Ba'ath baddies to escape into Turkey?

And how hard would the US try to prevent that?

Does Turkey have the opportunity to regret twice?

The "Baath baddies" have thousands of miles of porous boundaries to slip through. The border with Turkey is relatively short.

The Turks are after the northern Iraq oil fields. They practically admit as much in the article posted. Everything else they say is a cover-up for that.
