Choppers are very complex machines, and very unstable in flight. Many more life limited parts (limited by time in service) as compared to fixed wing aircraft. With the auto-stabilizer turned off, the chopper pilot's workload is HUGE.

Plus they fly very low, vulnerable to ground fire, and ground induced turbulence.

Helocopters seem to always be trying to come apart all on their own.

My favorite description of a helicopter is "10,000 rusting pieces of metal flying in formation with an oil leak."
