***Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - Day 5 - LIVE THREAD***
Everywhere! | 23 Mar 2003 | An.American.Expatriate

Posted on 03/23/2003 8:56:32 PM PST by null and void

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

To all who helped this get started, thank you!

Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Thank you all so much for the running commentary and summation of the war situation as it stands now. I have been having problems watching ALL the media and their slant on the "bad" news today, gets me so worked up I can't sleep sometimes.

Anyways, tonight I have decided to keep the TV off and just check here for whats been going on, and I feel much better, LOL! I know things aren't going as well as one might wish (0 casualties), but the analysis and cross linking to other threads gives one a better sense of the big picture.

Thanks again, and good night!

even with a bad economy, the Dems have only a bunch of lousy candidates to run.

Sad but true, negative campaigns work. The DEMs have nothing but naked criticism, no alternative plan. BS promises, social decay. Close to half the voting public buys it. But, the crap will be hard to sell against a straight-and-simple talker. I feel very good about the GOP prospects. The long haul needs attention, but the GOP is in good hands with GWB.

Hey all, I have a question.

Drudge is running a segment with personal information about one of our POW's. It mentions his wife, 5 YO daughter, that his 18 year old brother cried, and that his mother is worried that he'll be hungry or cold.

How likely is it that this info will be used against him during interrogation?

Thank you so much for posting that. What a story, it confirms, I hope she has a book of her experience as an embedded journalist.

The Senate passed 52 to 47 (IIRC) to take 100 million from Bush's tax cuts over the next 10 years to pay for the war. the usual suspects crossed over.

I PRAY....HARD.....for a 60 or61 Republican majority Senate in 2004.

I don't know .. but I think it is very odd that we haven't seen him at all (except for that old tape with Saddam)

"we support our troops when they shoot their officers"

when I see things like that, all I can think of is libertarians...as in, why would anyone knowingly vote libertarian when perhaps the consequences are giving animals of this ilk more power....

IMHO....The release of this video to the press is a pretty sure sign that Saddam is either dead or close to dead. Saddam would have never allowed that tape to hit the press. He's too smart for that.

The Iraqi's make a constant effort to make us look bad to the press and the world. They know the importance of world opinion and milk it for all it's worth.

The decision to release the tape was a rather dumb move and seems to say that there isn't any high level command alive. And the act seems like an act of revenge by a RG officer upset over the death of his beloved Saddam and sons.

Again, this is all IMHO. Comments?

If his interrogators know that information, then there is a 100% chance that that information would be used, IMO.

As if being a POW isn't bad enough. I hope this doesn't make national press.

Yup. The vote matters.

If you haven't seen Rumsfeld kicking Ruussert's butt, it is worth it. I haven't had so much fun in weeks.
