Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Haven't listened to Rush in a long while but....
I don't think he has any military background. That's what got us into trouble in VietNam--letting the non-military run the war, namely, LBJ.
GWB made the decision and turned it over to the military; let them do the job they have trained for.

Beeb ran interview with a former RAF POW in GWI. He talked about his experience and what our POWs might be going through now. He said he resisted going by the Iraqi script.

I don't think Rush is being negative at all. He's just stating the obvious. We are fighting a PC war because we are humane and don't want lots of civilian casualties and we are trying to assure the Iraqi people that it's the leadership we are after, not them. His only caveat was that this strategy will make the war longer and perhaps, perhaps, cause more American casualties. He isn't being negative and is citing the advances made.
Also his comments about the Iraqi treatment of our guys is right on. Complaining about Geneva Conventions is well and good but we shouldn't for a moment think that the Iraqis care one iota about the Geneva Convention. They don't. These guys are ruthless, bloody killers. We know that and they are demonstrating that. Crying foul is okay but it doesn't change a thing. The Iraqis are behaving just as we would expect them to. Expecting them to adhere to international law would be foolhardy.
I think people need to listen to the totality of his remarks before making assessments on his commentary.

There was some discussion of why take the family to that area during whatever alert we're at now,I look upon it as spitting in the faces of Saddam and bin Laden.I like the way you look at this, and I hope your right about Bagdad.
I hope the troops know how much they are supported and admired. Back in the 70's, as a teenager, I worked at a VA hospital. That has always left a big impression with me on what our men and women in the military do, and how much they need our support. Most were Vietnam vets.

I'd gather that it was the Iraqi TV Apache.

You're a prime example of why a LOT of people don't listen to Rush. Cool, maybe the DNC will pay me to reduce Rush's listening audience. If you aren't listening to what Rush is saying joining in on the debate is disingenous at best.
For the past 30 minutes Rush has been talking about NOT letting the media get you down. Control your emotions on the roller coster of 24 hour news. If you want to debate what Rush is talking about, perhaps you ought to tune in so you don't sound like a sycophant.
I haven't even said that I agree with Rush, I said I agree with the current war plan per Tommy Franks, and yet you are accusing me of turning off Rush listeners. I take this discussion just like any other, with the facts guided by logic and reason. If you don't like that, you can tune me out just like you've tuned Rush out. I will let Rush make his own points for himself.
Point is, if you aren't listening, your input on the discussion is meaningless.

I think people need to listen to the totality of his remarks before making assessments on his commentary. I haven't heard him today. I'm speaking more generally about the worth of what he says.

One thing bothering me-just a little-is the President's reaction when he came back to the WH yesterday. Some commentators have said,"well,he didn't know all the details of the Iraqi video at that time".If thats true, somebody in the WH get off your high horse and turn on a tv.If his response was modulated for some other reason,I'm all ears for suggestions.

You missed an excellent report with Kerry Sanders about 10 minutes earlier, then.
He had a wounded Marine (hand wound) and he allowed the Marine to call his Mom in the states on Sanders' phone. Mom was great and so was the Marine.

Fox: Red Cross reports only one Iraqi citizen killed in Baghdad bombings.

If you aren't listening to what Rush is saying joining in on the debate is disingenous at best.I don't keep sticking my finger in an electrical outlet "just in case" it might not shock me this time.
I listened for year; and like so many other who are capable of forming their own opinions, got tired of listening to him talk about HIMSELF.
His opinions are no more valid than mine.

Hey, dog....I'm in here just for a few....am at work (no radio, of course). Would you mind quickly summarizing what's gone on over the past few hours? I'm assuming bombing must have occured at least an hour ago, since the B-52's took off around 5:30 a.m. EST and then again around 7:00 EST.....I also read that no chems were found in the Chemical Plant....but this makes no sense to have an "abandoned" chemical factory, booby-trapped, guarded, with electrical fence around it, and a General, to boot. Thanks.
