Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

They have been bombed before. The local TV is telling the people lies. Reality will come quickly.

But the American media can't get over the idea of a sterile war with no casualties. Someone dead means there is someone to blame.
Lefties also can't grasp that there are those of us willing to risk 'our lives, our fourtunes, our sacred honor' for this country. *sigh* That is where I get discouraged.

I get the sense that our armor has halted until supplies catch up. All the embedded reporters seemed to have called in at the same time over the past hour.

It's not the articles that stimulate.

Third ID has a "strategic target". In between them and the "strategic target" is a "formidable Iraqi presence". I'm thinking we may be rushing the Karbala Gap. I'm hoping that we're topped off on fuel. Formidable Iraqi Presences make Good Targets for Long Sticks of 500 lb. HE Bombs, sustained artillery, cluster munitions, daisy cutters, and all sorts of good stuff.
I don't know what the topography is there, though. If it's a "gap", then I'm guessing it's either hilly terrain, or swampy.

I'm curious as to what the "strategic target" could be.
Looking at a map one may discern a whole host of options beyond the obvious.
Kind of cool to speculate.

Someone dead means there is someone to blame. And, to complete the thought on their behalf, there is someone to sue:)

Heard a VERY interesting piece on MSNBC just a bit ago.
Seems...a pool of newsies, newspapers, magazine and television, from all over the world, including Germany and France, are to be ready, on a 30 minute notice, to be taken to the Chemical plant(s). There is going to be a concerted effort to get the story out to the world....including the Arab nations.
This is being arranged by CentCom.
YES!!!!!

You'll notice that the "stick" of B-52's took off from Fairford about ninety minutes ago?
Methinks I know their target. Poor Republican Guard. It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of guys.

The ships have been in the persian gulf for like 2 months now, waiting to dock..was supposed to be in Turkey but we know how that went. They are now unloading the ships to Southern Kuwait City.
4th ID is on a 96 hour recall to leave, expected to be within the next few days.

That sad matter about the clothing was explained on
this thread earlier.

OK .. not sure if the Sky News reporter in Bagdad leans left or he can't say what he wants
But he says that he has spoke to people on the streets and says the people think this is a political war over the oil .. blah blah blah
But .. then he went on to say how it will all come down to bagdad because that is where all the republican guards are .. all the elite guards ..

How can that be (they don't know we are coming)? I'm crossposting. But denial is not just a river in Egypt. See, e.g., our leftist press. Same phenomenon can be in place in Iraq. Nothing like seeing the man at your door to change your perspective.

Troops on both sides get killed in war. The only way troops on one side don't get killed is if they stand back and nuke the enemy. Completely.
